Directions

  1. Mix flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and ground nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream butter, adding the sugar gradually.
  3. Add three well beaten eggs and vanilla extract. Mix in dry ingredients.
  4. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator. Roll out dough and cut with cookie cutters. Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 6 to 8 minutes. Frost and decorate, as desired.

The recipe is a family favorite to make each year for Christmas because the cookies aren't too doughy, but are easy to handle for big and little fingers to decorate. I find that it's easier to handle the longer I refrigerate it.

THESE WERE DELICIOUS! MOST DEFINATELY EASIER TO WORK WITH WHEN THE BATTER IS COOLED! I ADDED A LITTLE CINN AND EXTRA SUGAR MMM! I WILL BE MAKING THESE FROM NOW ON!

These turned out a bit dry for me. I like mine very moist and chewy. The dough seemed very sticky to roll out, I had to use lots of flour.
