No matter what I did to the recipe it would not hold its shape, good mild cookie if flavorings are added.

Oh yea. This was a huge hit for our office bake sale. Sliced almonds rather than whole almonds look more like fingernails and adhere to the cookie easier with the gel. I had to keep the dough chilled when rolling it into fingers because it gets sticky when it warms up. Next time I'll try to wrap the dough around something crunchy in the center so it mimics a finger bone.

Great idea...bad dough. These only get three stars because of the awesome idea. The cookie dough is WAY too soft to hold shape in the oven. I even shaped the fingers and put them back in the fridge to firm up before baking and they still turned out fat and blob-like. I used a different sugar cookie recipe and tried again and they turned out great. My guests loved them!

5 stars for the look, but really wish there was more flavor. I will continue to play with them till I get the flavoring right. ~N~

Five stars for realism! I took them to a potluck and some people were initially scared to try them because they looked so realistic. **Special note, though** the fingers have to be made REALLY skinny, about the size of a small pencil, in order to come out cooked looking real. They expand A LOT in the oven. The taste was pretty good too, although they could use a bit of frosting, someone suggested.

These came out great and for the adults with a "not so sweet tooth" they were a hit! I found the taste just right for people that don't like really sweet treats. Had to place a REAL SMALL dab of red decorating gel under the nail to hold the almond on b/c I made it for a Pre-K party (so I couldn't make it too scary). The girls were grossed out and the boys LOVED them! (go figure) Tip: Make sure you handle the dough in wax paper to keep your hands from warming the dough...they rise more if you activate the leavening agents prior to baking so they don't look as realistic. Enjoy!

I made these for a halloween party and they were perfect! I followed the directions exactly as written. I read reviews saying to omit the salt. I disagree...i was glad i did not omit the salt. The end taste was a subtle sweet/salty taste. Everybody loved them! I wrapped up half of my dough in plastic wrap and put in the fridge. The other half...i added green food coloring...and a little bit of blue food coloring to make a nice dark green. I wrapped that up in plastic wrap and left both balls of dough in the fridge for an hour. The dough was really easy to work with. I did roll the fingers out super thin...about the size of my pinky. I love this recipe...will make every halloween! Thanks!

Most adorable idea!! I also made a thumb and various sized fingers so it looked like a hand was coming out of my cake. The rest of the cookies were snacked on and so good. Thank you!

This is so great. They really come out CREEPY. They were gone in first hours of my Halloween party (and there were NO kids at the party). Quick tip: when forming the fingers, make them extra skinny because they puff up when you bake. And really exaggerate the knuckles. Will make again! I used black decorating gel, and it looked just as gross! Clever idea on a classic christmas cookie!

Such a treat - and so creative! This cookie has an almond-biscotti flavor. Be sure to roll the cookies into a shape no larger than your pinky finger because it will expand while baking. Also, adding green food coloring will make it even more witch-like :)

Definitely use the green food coloring and double the almond extract for better flavor. These were a BIG hit! I used pomagranate jelly to stick on the 'bloody nails' before baking. Big hit with the neighbor kids and Grandma, too!
