I found this soup pretty boring. It was nice, I'd eat it any time it was served but I won't bother making it again. A bit of lemon juice was an improvement. Perhaps my salsa was too boring?

I loved this soup. The recipe looked too simple to be flavorful but it was delicious and full of flavor. The only change I made was I added 1 stalk of celery chopped up.

As is this recipe is pretty good. I have started making it with a few modifications and it's now a favorite in my house. I used about 3 cups of shredded carrots instead of 1. I used some organic free range chicken broth instead of water. And I tried a few different salsas and found that Emeril's Original Medium salsa is perfect for this recipe. At my wife's request I omitted the spinach and I don't miss it with these other changes I've made.

Lovely soup. I was looking for something colorful and soothing to deal with my cold, and this hit the spot. I added a bit more spice, additional carrot, and fresh mushrooms--also used 10 oz of frozen chopped spinach instead of fresh and let it thaw in the pot.

I love spinach and lentils so I thought a marriage of the two would be great...not so. There are a lot of better lentil recipes out there, keep searching. I won't be making this one again.

I'm giving 5 stars because it's easy, inexpensive, tasty, and uses things I keep around the house. I used half broth, half water, just in case. And I used fancy salsa the second time but didn't notice a difference. I'll stick with the standard (cheaper!) stuff next time.

This was a good base and super easy to throw together. Next time I'll add some red pepper flakes and use less water so it's spicy and thicker. Thanks for the recipe!

This was easy to make and I felt healthy eating it, but it was pretty bland. I added a lot of cumin but I couldn't taste it. Next time I will saute a lot of garlic with the onion and maybe use chicken stock instead of water. I used fresh and frozen spinach and they both work really well in the recipe. It's a good way to use up frozen spinach without going through that annoying step of thawing and squeezing out water; you just throw the icy block in the soup. Next time I'll also chop the carrots, their flavor is kind of lost when they're in tiny shreds.

Easy to make and I love that I will almost always have all the ingredients on hand. I will probably make this one more in the winter when I want something warm and hearty. I may add more veggies next time as well - some bell peppers or celery perhaps.

This felt so good to eat. I used frozen spinach because that was what I had. You can just thaw it out in the soup. Great recipe!

I agree with Joanne that the recipe could have been more flavorful. Does it need more spices? Bacon? Different salsa? Probably its downfall is its best quality - this is a simple recipe, which is why I made it, and why I give it four instead of three stars. I agree with the author and Joanne that this is a good base recipe and you should add any other veggies that you love. Maybe some herbs and spices too, or very flavorful lentils!

This soup is surprisingly tasty! It is really easy to put together, and it is very healthy. I didn't use quite as much spinach as the recipe called for, but that was the only change I made. One suggestion though; it doesn't take anywhere near 55-60 minutes to cook the lentils! Mine were done in about 20 minutes!
