Spiderweb Brownies
SUBMITTED BY:
Sandy Pichon
"To decorate these moist brownies for Halloween, I drizzle a chocolate spiderweb on their white icing. They're so delicious and chocolaty...you'll find yourself making them for gatherings throughout the year."

DIRECTIONS
In a saucepan over low heat, stir unsweetened chocolate and butter until chocolate is melted. Remove from the heat; stir in sugar. Cool for 10 minutes. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour and nuts. Pour into a greased foil-lined 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (do not overbake). Immediately drop marshmallow cream by spoonfuls over hot brownies; spread evenly. Cool on a wire rack. Lift out of the pan; remove foil. Place on a serving tray. For web decoration, melt semisweet chocolate and pour into a small resealable plastic bag. Cut a small hole in one corner of the bag; drizzle chocolate over creme in a spiderweb design.

I can't really review the brownie recipe, but the idea of the white frosting and melted chocolate spider web on top was great!! I *gasp* was lazy and made brownies from a box, but I used the white frosting and melted chocolate idea for the top, and it turned out great! For melting semi sweet chocolate over the stovetop (double boiler method), you can't get the chocolate too hot. I did at first and it was one gelatenous glop of melted (but not melted enough to drizzle) chocolate... I kept heating and stirring and couldn't figure it out!! I called my father-in-law-to-be, a baking guru, and he said to take the chocolate off the heat and keep working it... and it worked! The tiny hole in the corner of a bag worked great too (but not with the goopy too-hot chocolate--that just bust right through the side of the bag!) Next time, I'll make the brownies from scratch too! :)

I had some problems with these brownies. First, I wouldn't use aluminum foil under them again while baking because after they cooled and I tried to move them to a tray, the brownies fell apart, it just became a mess. Also, I found the melted chocolate was too thick to adequately design the spider web. Next time, I would add a little milk or water. The flavor of the brownies was pretty good, though.

This is a good recipe. The topping is a bit sticky so you have to be careful about it is covered. Also it can be sticky when you eat it - but it is a good change up from regular brownies.

The brownies were a little too fudge-like for my taste, and too sticky with all that marshmallow on top. Good in idea, tastes okay, but not very practical.
