Letting it cook a bit longer/ sit with lid on thickens this dish, tenderizes the ham and improves it's flavor. I didn't have beans with pork, only the original style, but I think beans with pork would have added more flavor as would using some bacon. DH and toddler love it & say add it to my list of meals to make.

I've made this recipe a couple of times now and it is so good. I change up the meat sometimes, i like to use maple bacon more, adds to the sweetness.

Awesome dish! I had lots of compliments. The beans had a little bite but still super sweet.

I thought these were pretty darn awesome. The only substitute that I made was that I was out of tomato paste and I used ketchup instead. It turned out wonderful!

I have tried several baked bean recipes on this website, and this one is easily the best. The flavor and consistency is just right. The flavor is sweet, with just a hint of spicy heat. Prepare this one with confidence.

Absolutely the best baked bean recipie I have ever made! Its a staple for every pot luck dinner and barbque I attend. I prepare it on the stove and then let it simmer in a crock pot... the longer the better! I never go home with left overs. Its also an easy fix for family dinner nights, just cutting down the recipie a bit. Thanks for the fabulous recipie!

Very good but a little soupy and perhaps I should have used a little less chili powder

We thought these beans were very tasty. I used bacon instead of ham. I forgot to put in the yellow mustard. They were still excellent. The maple syrup makes them very yummy.

A family hit! I scaled this recipe to 4 servings and used 2 cans of beans. Had to make substitutions with ingredients I had on hand so unable to rate 5 stars. Used EVOO to saute minced and garlic, subbed 2 tablespoons of chili sauce in place of the chili powder and used chopped pulled pork in place of the ham.

Everyone LOVED this recipe, its so savory! Made it for our son's graduation party and our male friends were asking for the recipe! I substituted Applewood Smoke Bacon for the Ham and tried it with regular syrup. A little too sugary so I made adjustments. I am sure real Maple is the way to go on this one.

These beans were great! Had my family over for dinner and each member had 3 or 4 helpings. Only changes I made was using country ham (which added a good salty flavor) and added green pepper. Also added 2T cornstarch as we like our beans nice and thick. Will now use this recipe every time I make baked beans

Mother-in-law cant have molasses, brown sugar or worcestershire. I needed a recipe that would easily adapt. These were fantastic. I added some green pepper and used bacon instead of ham. Left out worcestershire and everyone gobbled these up including Mom in law. Thanks

At first I liked these, then I didn't, then I did... the maple syrup was expensive so I would rather use brown sugar next time. The spices (chili and cayenne) were just a bit much for me and I almost wondered if I was doing chili or beans? Overall these were good beans, but I don't think I will make this exact recipe again. Thanks.
