Pretty good. I'll make again to see if the dryness was my fault with overbaking. I used 4 mini loaves instead of oen whole one. They were baked in 40 min. Probably could've taken them out at 35.

I made this for an extra credit assignment in Home Ec, and I did not care for this recipe! It was much too dense, chewy, and dry. It also had very little flavor. I do not recommend it.

I give this recipe 4 stars as written. I did follow some of the suggestions in other reviews. I increased the apple sauce to 1 1/2 cups, doubled all the spices and added a tsp of ground cloves, also only used 1/4 cup of canola oil and used 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar. It was spicy and delicious, my 17 month old could not get enough of it and my husband even liked it. Thanks for the recipe.

This was so delicious! I made a few changes though: I peeled and chopped one medium apple and added it, I used half white sugar, half brown, half white flour, half wheat, doubled the spices, and before baking i sprinkled with brown sugar on top with dots of butter. It's wonderful! I think i may end up making another loaf today!

I don't think this bread deserves the rating it has. It really isn't anything special. In fact, it tastes kind of weird. Good texture though. It is definitely edible.

Great healthy recipe and so moist and yummy. I doubled the spices after I tasted the batter and could hardly taste any. I used half whole wheat flour and used 1 1/4 cup of applesauce and 1/4 of the oil. To make it a bit more fancy I put a crumb topping in it- ground pecans, oats, cinnamon, sugar, flour and butter.

I thought it was a 2 star, my boyfriend thought it was a 4 star, so I'm going to compromise and give it 3 stars. It is nice and moist, and while it smelled great while it was baking, I thought it lacked flavor, and what flavor it did have was kind of strange. Don't think I will be making this again.

I made this for a group of people tonight and they all loved it. A few changes: Add 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Double the spices. Bake at only 325 degrees for a glass pan, and add 10 minuts to the baking time.

Yummy! This was great with some adjustments. I TRIPLED the seasoning (except the salt) and think next time I might even quadruple it. Couldn't imagine how bland this would have tasted if I followed the recipes amounts. Also used half white flower and half wheat flower as someone else did to make it not so dense. This was delicious and light. I thought served with butter its fantastic!

MMM. Wow! Fantastic! I used 1/2 white and 1/2 whole wheat flour, and instead of 1 cup of white sugar I used 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup splenda. I also added 1/2 cup of glazed walnuts and replaced the individual spices with pumpkin pie spice. I reduced the oil to about 1/4 cup with no effect on quality or taste. This stuff is heavenly and pretty darned healthy.

I'm going to give this recipe five stars even with my changes. Seems only fair. I've been doing my best to use what I had on hand so making this bread was a challenge. I used half brown/half white sugar (I only had a half cup of white on hand) and added in another 1/4 c. of applesauce as I only had one egg. (I used homemade slow cooker applesauce that I made yesterday, a recipe also from this site.) Since I had little white flour on hand, I did a cup of white, then ground a half cup of oats in my blender and added that to a half cup of whole wheat flour to make a full cup. I also used a stick of margerine in place of the vegetable oil to make the batter fluffier. Before I put the loaves in the oven, I sprinkled some brown sugar over the top. They turned out beautifully. Not exactly according to the recipe, but workable with what I have on hand. Plus, they smell divine! For those of you who are thinking of making this, use a homemade chunky applesauce. You'll appreciate the flavor and texture better with homemade over storebought. BTW, this made two loaves that were a bit on the thinner side, to decrease cooking time. EDITED TO ADD: This bread turned out SO good. Try it with my changes. You'll thank me. We've already eaten one of the loaves.

Good, but after reading the reviews I added more spices, including cloves. I think I had a bit of a heavy hand with the cloves--still tasting it now! I do think that if I hadn't added more spices it would've been a bit bland for me. Thanks!

I give this a 5 star rating. In viewing this recipe, I notice no pecans listed in ingredients. However, directions say to fold in pecans. I added 1/2 cup, which seemed the right amount. Walnuts would also make a nice addition. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

We loved this recipe. I doubled the recipe and used half as much oil as was called for, substituted half whole wheat flour and added raisins and walnuts. I took a bunch to work and everyone loved them! Will make again.
