Based on other comments here, I made a few changes: I didn't peel the apples; I used a 9" x 9" baking dish; I baked for a few minutes extra; and I topped with a mixture made of confectioner's sugar, milk, and maple syrup. The result? Amazing!!

These bars were acceptable to serve at a big informal party. However, they were a bit dry and lacked some presentability. I made a maple syrup icing out of syrup and confectioner sugar. I also used a smaller pan, so the bars were a bit thicker, and more like a cake. I used 2 cups of chopped apple and it still could have used more!

These were nice. I used 1/4 wheat flour, and regular oats for fiber, and added extra apples--all fine improvements. But they need something for eye appeal, and confectioners sugar doesn't do it. I'll try to drizzle on maple syrup icing next time.

Delicious, except I cooked it for 25 minutes and it was still very mushy inside. Can probably handle 30-35 minutes. But it tasted really good.
