My husband likes the flavor and texture of these cookies. Milk chocolate chips and sliced almonds make them deliciously different. My mother-in-law shared the recipe with me.

With crisp outsides and brownie-like insides, these cookies were a big hit when my 5 year-old son took a batch to share at preschool. In fact, kids of all ages love them.

Each Christmas, my mother made lots of these tender butter cookies and stored them in clean coffee cans. When she passed away, I started giving our kids a can of these sentimental sweets. --Jane Garing, Talladega, Alabama

I came up with this cookie recipe as a way to capture a butter cake popular in my husband's native Netherlands. Almond paste and butter make each melt-in-your-mouth morsel irresistible.

My mom always had these cookies on hand. They're so good with a cup of hot chocolate, coffee or milk.

It's been said that the lard is what produces the traditional taste. However, if desired, butter or margarine may be substituted for very satisfactory results.

I'm the fourth generation of cooks in my family to bake these cookies. When my grandmother sent me a batch for my birthday one year, I asked her for the recipe - not knowing I already had it in a booklet of handwritten recipes she'd given me. Embarrassed, I looked, and sure enough there it was. That's when I learned it was originally my great-grandmother's recipe...it's one that I will definitely make sure gets passed on!
