INDIANA--'When I think of food and summer, I think of our county fair in July. My three sons and I have competed in a lot of 4-H cooking contests. I enter 15 or more food items every year in the open show. 'I've found Taste of Home to be a great source for prize winning recipes. My recipe for Sky-High Biscuits (below) never fails to win a ribbon. They're moist, high and flaky, with a wonderful wheat flavor.' --Ruth Burrus, Zionsville

This is the recipe my mom always made. I like to use the butter flavored shortening, but you can use regular. Amount of biscuits you get depends on how big around you make them and the thickness. My daughter likes me to make smaller ones.

I CREATED this recipe in a larger quantity to enter in the Kentucky State Fair. It won first place! Since biscuits are best fresh out of the oven, I sized my recipe down to yield four - perfect for two. I make them whenever biscuits fit into the menu. -Bessie Hulett, Shively, Kentucky
