My family really loved this recipe! The only changes we made were the exclusion of flour (since I have celiac disease) and mushrooms (our family doesn't like them). Also, used a honey beer instead of stout. We practically licked our bowls clean! Yum!

Good stew! Scaled for 12 and made in the crockpot. I also used less carrots (about half) and two bottles of Guiness. Thought it tasted much better the next day. Still think I prefer the red wine stew better, but loved the mushrooms-never put those in beef stew before, yum!

This is essentially a regular stew with a bottle of Guiness tossed in to give it the "Irish" feel. I made it for St. Patrick's Day and liked it, but my wife is not fond of thick gravies, so she described it as "pasty". I followed the recipe, but added three bay leaves. I served it with the Irish Brown Soda Bread recipe (also a disappointment). Probably won't make either again.

Not bad, not bad at all. This stew has a good flavor to it, the only thing I added was a few bay leaves. It all got eaten, so I'd say it was a sucess.

This stew was grea! Everyone loved it. I used Guinness, and added some fresh kale in the last 10 min of cooking. The kale added a nice touch for those of us who like a little bitterness. Great with Irish soda bread.

I made this but used a crock pot - cooked it most of the day. Served it to a table of hungry poker players and there was barely enough left to soak a piece of bread. good stuff.

This was a great beef stew, I love the deep flavor the beer gives to it (I used Guinness). I'm not a big fan of tomato flavor in my stew so I left out the tomato paste. Also left out the mushrooms since I don't like them, and didn't use nearly as many carrots. Overall, this is probably my favorite beef stew recipe.

This stew is a little on the sweet side. It might have been the beer we used but I didnt care for the tang the stew had. Definatly needs all the mushrooms, maybe that would help mellow out the bitter after taste.

Well this was good, but not the best. I didn't use beer. I think a beef stew taste different that this, I don't know. Again it tasted good, but not tgeh beef stew I like.

This soup was very bland. I browned the meat in bacon and added V8 juice. After adding pea's and corn and a bit of chili powder it was much better. I would use the beer again.

I forgot the cornstarch at the end, and did it in the oven at 200F - it was delicious!

very good. my only complaint is I followed the recipe but it never said when to add the garlic? I ended up adding it at the end when I found it was the only ingredient left. It probably needed to be added with the onions to bring out the full flavor. I used Killians beer and did add some salt.
