Irish Soda Bread in a Skillet

A basic version of Irish Soda Bread that is baked in a cast iron skillet. Try substituting the liquid with buttermilk or 2)1/2c cream plus 1/2c sour cream left to sit overnight. Try adding a tablespoon or so of sugar if you like your soda bread slightly sweet. Experiment until you get the flavor you remember.

Southern Breakfast Skillet

Portuguese Bread French Toast

This yummy toast is baked in the over rather than on top of it and it 's wonderful. Portuguese sweet bread lines the baking dish. The milk, egg and fragrant spice mixture is poured on top, and then the whole delicious thing is baked until a custard sets.

Easy, inexpensive, and tasty. A savory moist alternative to pasta or potatoes, great as a side with grilled meat or poultry, or a main course with a side of greens. A great way to use stale bread (save in the freezer - mix and match, even bagels, but nothing sweet for this recipe!)
