My potatoes turned out mushy, not candied or crispy/hard around the edges. There was a lot of sauce left after an hour of cooking and I made a point to use very large potatoes after reading some of the other reviews. The flavor wasn't bad but overall it was too mushy and too sweet for my taste. I don't anticipate making them again.

I made Thanksgiving dinner (minus the turkey!) and Dad requested candied yams... in my 26 years we'd never had them before in our house. Though this wasn't what he had in mind (it wasn't like my grandma's I guess), he and the rest of us enjoyed it very much. Easy, and very sweet and tender.

This is the best recipe I have ever tried...I will not go back to baking sweet potatoes again...the best part is the potatoes didnt fall part as soon as I touched them!

The best recipe for sweet potaotes i have tried. I had these in mind to make for my boyfriend and initially i asked if he liked sweet potatoes and he said NO!! I made them anyway and Yes he loved them. He said they tasted like a dessert. Although mine didnt get the 'candied' effect i was hoping for - a little too much liquid left over and also was cooked in about 45mins. definetely a keeper never going back to making these in the oven.

WOW! This was fabulous! I've tried many other candied sweet potato recipes, but they just weren't that great. Even a dinner guest who doesn't like sweet potatoes said this was really good! Thanks for sharing!

My family LOVED these potatoes and could not get enough. Even my husband who usually doesn't like sweet potatoes had some.

I substituted brown sugar for white. That's the only substitution I made. I don't think I can go back to the canned stuff ever again. Thank you very much for the recipe!

My second attempt at candied sweet potatoes. The first time I tried my own recipe but didnt like it. I loved this one with the changes that I made to it, I used only 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of brown sugar and when it was almost finished I added 2 tablespoons of cornstartch to the sauce to thicken it up.

Next time, I would cut the sweet potatoes into smaller pieces so that it would cook faster. But it tasted really really good!

Oh so yummy!! I made them last night for our late Christmas party. Everyone loved them. I used 1 c. white sugar, 1 c. brown sugar. I think next time I will use 1 or 2 more potatoes (mine may have been smaller?)as I seemed to have a lot of extra sauce. Luckily I had some left overs-so I had them for lunch today-still just as yummy as yesterday! Thanks for the recipe!

Although I couldn't get them to 'candy', or harden at the edges as described, these were, as my husband put it, better than a roll in the hay, or words to that effect. I must have had too small a quantity of yams, or too much sugar mixture. But boy, were they good!!

a little overly sweet (but I liked it that way), make sure not to cut the potatoes too thin like I did, it gets gooey, even though it cooks much faster. just as good reheated

Woo-wee! These were AWESOME! Best sweet potato recipe we've ever had!! Might try cutting down on the amount of sugar next time- 2 cups seems like an awful lot...but worth it! Merry Christmas!

Can't go wrong with butter and sugar! I used about a cup and a half of brown sugar, and put it all in the slow cooker. Worked out well.
