Around Halloween, our babysitter would take the pumpkin seeds from the carved pumpkins, roast them a few minutes in the oven, and then make this bread. You can also use store brought seeds if you prefer.

Pure whole wheat, not moderated by milder flours, yields a hearty taste, but still a light texture. Cornmeal adds a hint of crunch to this bread machine product.

Mother's corn bread is a special treat she made often while I was growing up and still makes today. My grandmother came up with this recipe years ago. True to tradition, I serve it frequently to my own family.

Cream cheese imparts true richness to this appealing bread machine loaf. Although it is terrific as is, it also invites whatever additions tickle your fancy: chopped fruit, little chunks of chocolate, sweet nuts or whatever you prefer.

It will take several days for the wheat berries to sprout before you can use them in this recipe. The reward for your patience is a hearty loaf packed with protein. Special care needs to be taken with this bread and the instructions need to be followed very carefully.
