This is my first attempt at an apple pie of any kind, so the product is probably more of a reflection on the inexperience cook than a flawed recipe. Even though I chopped my granny smiths very finely, they didn't cook all the way through, and the texture of the filling was a little weird. The flavor was good, though. Since I'm a crumble-lover, I decided to make extra topping for mine. It ended up becoming a kind of like a crust on the top - not the extra mounds of yummy crumbles that I was hoping for. Over all, it is pretty good.

I made this for a Christmas Party at my office. Its very tasty, and pretty easy to make too :) But... I still took home leftovers, so in my opinion not a complete home run. I'd make it again though, when I need a quick and easy apple pie.

Okay, definitely not bad, just different for apple pie and easy, too. We prefer the more tradional apple pie recipes to this one.

It's not often I choose a recipe from this site that doesn't turn out to be a winner for me, but this was one of those occasions. Never had sour cream apple pie before now, so I'm not sure if my displeasure is with the type of pie or the recipe itself. Either way, neither hubs nor I enjoyed it - not only did we not finish the piece on our plate, the entire pie was tossed as we knew we'd never eat it. His first reaction and response was that it was like a "Blah apple quiche." That pretty well sums it up. The custard to us was unpleasant - had a weird mouth feel and odd aftertaste, and the chopped apples, as one other reviewer noted, don't cook through completely (and no, the apples pieces weren't overly large at all). As for the topping, it wasn't very crumbly, in fact it was almost greasy, and I suspect too much butter is responsible for that. I may be willing to give "Sour Cream Apple Pie" another go someday, but not with this recipe.

I made the topping using 1/3 c sugar 1/2 c brown sugar 1/3 c. flour 1 tsp cinnamon and cut it 1/4 c chilled butter and sprinkled it over the pie in the last 20 minutes of baking

Lovely pie. When I make this, I slice the apples thinly instead of chopping. This makes the texture much more pleasing and delicate in my opinion. It tastes best either the first or second day so I would recommend making it when you're sure it'll get eaten quickly!
