Love these cookies. I made one batch yesterday and they are already GONE so I am making some more today. Definitely a favorite.

I made these cookies with soy butter(and no shortening) for my son who has a dairy allergy and they came out wonderful! The dough was a little difficult to roll out, but the cookies came out nice and soft and actually taste better than the sugar cookies I made last year with real butter. I frosted them with confectioner's sugar mixed with rice milk (it sounds kind of gross) and they are so good! This is my sugar cookie recipe from now on. Thanks for sharing!!

I have been searching for a great sugar cookie recipe and this is it. Perfect. I used 3 cups flour and the rest when rolling. Yum, yum, yum.

Best Sugar cookie recipe I've made yet! Still soft and chewy the next day and it was easy enough to alter for a nice variation of cookies. :) I ended up dipping some in melted chocolate(I recommend Dolchi Frutta chocolate dots. I only covered half of the cookie for more of a fancy look), covered quite a few in cream cheese frosting, and then leaving the others plain(but with cinnamon added to the sugar topping to make them more like snickerdoodles.). Each was absolutely delicious! The boyfriend had at least seven in one sitting, so it passes the test ;) I'll be making this again for parties and holiday occasions.

I am not a sugar cookie fan mostly because I prefer a soft chewy cookie...but I had all the ingredients and needed SOMETHING sweet :-) These were awesome...for a sugar cookie lol. I can understand how, for some, it may be a bit salty, but I didn't mind so much, although I will probably use less next time. Good cookie!

First time using this recipe and absolutely loved it. I followed it exactly and they turned out wonderfully. My husband and 3 yr old daughter loved them also. My husband called them "elegant" and said they are a must for Christmas.

Waaay too much salt. Very disappointing. I had a feeling it was too much when I put it in. Should have trusted my instincts. If I make this again, I will only use half a teaspoon.

This was WAYYY to buttery and salty. I would cut the butter/shortening down to 1 cup total! and make sure you use UNSALTED butter and only use 1/2 tsp. of salt.. I MAY make these again, if I do I will follow my previous ideas. I will say that the appearance of the cookies is phenomeonal and they baked perfectly.. just the taste was very (!) off..

These turned out really well. I looked at the pictures, and there were some that were cut-outs, so I tried it. It didn't make the best cuts, and the dough was pretty fragile- but overall flavor and texture were perfect! The original recipe and technique remind me of what we call "Cookie Monster Cookies," a recipe my family learned when I was in preschool 25 years ago!

AWESOME COOKIES!!! Look no further for the perfect sugar cookie recipe. I made them according to the recipe, slightly flattened the dough balls with a glass, then decorated with cookie icing and sprinkles after they cooled. Great cookies! Thanks for the recipe!

This is a great recipe for those times when you want a sugar cookie that doesn't require rolling out and cutting. I had to bake mine a little longer than the time stated in the recipe. The cookies are slightly rounded, crunchy and sugary on the outside and soft on the inside. Simple and delicious.

I didn't like the thickness as they didn't get done in the middle. Think I would flatten the ball some so they would not be as thick & doughy in the center.

Exactly what I was looking for! I ended up having to make a dessert for a party on short notice, and these were PERFECT! I did decrease salt to 1/2 tsp, and I sifted the flour, salt, and baking powder before adding to creamed ingredients. In general, use high quality vanilla and real, unsalted butter, and make sure nothing is expired, and your baked goods will turn out better. If you don't have an essential ingredient (i.e., EGGS!) then DON'T TRY THE RECIPE! Also, I wonder if the people who gave the bad reviews really understood what "creaming" means. You need to do it until everything is creamy white and fluffy, or the cookies won't turn out. I rolled them into larger balls and flattened slightly when dipping them into the colored sugar. Cooked for 11 minutes and they were great. I didn't have a single cookie left, and d/h was mad that I didn't make a double batch!

Very soft and good. They were a touch salty for my tatse so next time I'll just put 1/2 a tsp of salt instead of 1 tsp. I also put 1 3/4 vanilla extract and 1/4 tsp almond extract instead of the 2 tsp of vanilla just to switch up the flavor a bit and it made the cookies even better.
