I did a half-batch since I had half a package of yeast waiting to be used up... And that might have been why they didn't rise as much as I would have liked. The yeast wasn't expired yet, but I don't remember when I opened the package! These were tasty, though! Instead of melting the butter, I had 2 TBS of a stick left in the fridge, so I just rubbed the cool butter on the breadsticks immediately after coming out of the oven. Next time, I think I'll sprinkle with parmesan or sesame seeds. Thanks for sharing, Charles!

Not sure what I did wrong, but my breadsticks were a little tough and chewy. I don't have a bread machine so I did these in the stand mixer. Will try again.

I rolled out the dough and cut it into sticks with a pizza cutter. What wasn't eaten at dinner was gone the next day at snack time. Also, I accidentally added way too much garlic, so I doubled the recipe and freezed half of the dough. It was easy to thaw and bake later.

Very good breadsticks, and they were even easier than what you'd think from reading the recipe. I put everything in the bread machine and set it to the dough cycle (my dough cycle is 1 hour and 50 minutes by the way, so the time for this is a bit off)...when the dough was ready, I got out the flour and was just about to sprinkle the countertops when I realized that the dough was NOT STICKY AT ALL!! So, there is NO NEED to flour your counter...just roll into sticks on a clean counter & your golden! Other reviewers who said that this was sticky must have added too much oil, I didn't add any extra oil or flour - used the exact amount called for & it was perfect. I ended up with 19 breadsticks, and they actually didn't taste too 'garlicly' - but they were still delicious all the same (and oh, I used about 2 T. dried basil), but if you really want a stronger garlic flavor - use more!! Don't forget that this can be used as a pizza crust too (as the description states), I'm sure it would be great! :)

Very good. I don't have a bread machine, so I followed NURSEGIRL's instructions. I used all purpose flour instead of bread flour, and they turned out really good! Also, instead of brushing with regular butter, I melted the butter with garlic and parmesan, than brushed that on the breadsticks. This is a great recipe!

Awesome but sticky dough make sure you use enough flour on your surface!

This was not what I was expecting! I was hoping for a fluffier breadstick. These were very dence. I followed the recipe to a T. Fine flavor though. I think they would have been better without the basil.

I love this recipe, and I've made it several times now. To save time, I roll the dough out and cut into strips with a pizza cutter rather than forming ropes. If you do this, be sure to reduce the baking time by about 5 minutes.

I really like this recipe- I am having yeast problems, but that is not the recipes fault- The humidity in the air really affects this dough, so watch it! These come out beautifully- an entire batch disappears in a few minutes at my house. I added some minced garlic which punched up the flavor a bit, and added some extra parmesan as they were baking. Awesome!

If there were 4 1/2 star rating, I would have given it that...ONLY because like another reviewer said, they started drying up within minutes so it's best to serve them right out of the oven. They tasted very good and were very pretty. I brushed them with garlic infused olive oil before serving. They didn't quite make 20 breadsticks....I think there were 12 or 13. Overall, great recipe!

Love love love this recipe! My husband RAVED about the breadsticks, and thats saying a lot, as hes not a bread person but went back for seconds on the bread! One thing, I didn't have any basil, so I left that out but it was still fantastic! Thanks for the recipe !

This recipe was awesome! I made a few alterations. Instead of a bread maker I did it the old fashioned way. I mixed the water, sugar and yeast and let stand for 10 minutes. I then put oil, garlic, cheese, and I used dry basil, since I didn't have fresh. Then added the yeast mixture. Then the flour. Mine only made 14 good sized bread sticks. I sprinkled grated parmesan cheese on the outside along with the butter after baking. They are yummy with a dipping sauce too!!!

These are great! I followed the recipe exactly except I used dried basil (didn't have fresh on hand). I also used the garlic butter recipe from this site as another reviewer suggested. Simply awesome! Also, I parbaked half of them and stored in the freezer. It was so easy to add some yummy breadsticks to any dinner...just pop in the oven for 5-6 minutes to finish them off and brush with butter of your choice!

Fantastic recipe. I always try to use real garlic when I can, so I did; I hear some people say 3 tsp garlic powder is not enough, and some say it's too much! I think it depends on the brand. I have some Lowry's that's more garlic than salt, and some generic that's more salt than garlic, it varies a lot!
