These are the best sugar cookies I have ever had! I just finished making them at 2:30am and I couldn't resist trying them - not the best pre-bedtime snack, but it was well worth it!! I only used 3 1/4 cups flour (reading error on my part) and baked at 350 degrees for 10 minutes as a previous poster suggested and they are perfect...just a tad golden brown around the outside. Can't wait to find another reason to make them!

I certainly have no complaints with this recipe! Super simple, super easy and the cookies came out nice and soft! Cooked each batch for exactly 8 minutes and they all came out perfect! Great flavor too, so these will definitely be eaten up. Decorated with Sugar Cookie Icing and sprinkles! We had a blast! Thanks!

I could never give a 5 star to anyone but my grandmother's recipe. I wanted to try a different recipe this year, and this was easy and worked great! Same as most of the people on this review list: cut the flour back to 3 cups.

OH MY GOSH! I just LOVED these cookies. I followed some other reviews and decreased the flour to 3 cups (I had a hard time getting that mixed in and couldn't imagine using more) I also used unsalted butter, decreased the temp of the oven to 350 and baked according to the look of the cookie I used large cookie cutters and baked for about 8 minutes. I also added about 1/4 tsp of almond extract to the batter. I am on my 4th batch today! Now if I could only find a great glaze for the top...

this recipe tasted so good! really really soft and chewy but not so soft it breaks when you lift them up. it has a lovely texture. easy to make and the dough was extremely easy to work with! not that complicated and the results look so fantastic.

for some reason they were not sweet enough. Try adding more sugar and less flower.

Excellent sugar cookie recipe. I used 3-1/4 C flour as another reviewer suggested saving the remainder of the flour for use when rolling the dough out. I also frosted my cookies using the Sugar Cookie Icing recipe submitted by JBS Box on this website. Delicious cookies. Soft and not overly sweet.

This is an okay cookie. I think sugar cookies are bland and boring so I usually add about 1tsp of Cinnamon and 1tsp of nutmeg. That makes things a bit more exciting. The dough is really yummy and my two year old had fun making stars and snowflakes.

I made these cookies yesterday and they tasted wonderful and kept their shapes. I can only give the recipe 4 stars because I made adjustments. I used real butter (margarine has much more water content and that will make your cookies spread and they will be crispy instead of soft) and I used only 3 cups of flour and I baked them at 350 degrees for 9 min. I chilled the dough for approx. 1 hr. I rolled it between sheets of waxed paper and baked on a cookie sheet lined with parchment. They turned out perfect. I used maybe only a 1/3 cup of extra flour to roll out dough. They didn't break or fall apart when I transferred shapes from paper to cookie sheet. That is what makes this recipe a keeper. Oh, also, I didn't melt my butter. I just made sure it was soft and creamed it for at least 7 min while adding the sugar gradually. That is how my mom taught me and it works every single time. I took these cookies to the Junior choir that I direct and they loved, loved, loved them. They said, " Wow, these are nice and soft." I found them sweet enough and didn't add frosting. But next time, I will frost them just to make them more eye-catching.

These are delicious! I followed other reviewers' advice of using real butter, lowering the temp to 350, and only 3 cups of flour. Well, although this is the first time I've ever made cut-out cookies, it took forever to roll them out. That extra cup of flour I didn't use I wound up using to roll it out. Despite that, they came out tasty! :) Just keep an eye on them in the oven.

Fabulous cookies ! Very soft, light and fluffy ! I used confectioners sugar to roll the dough out with instead of flour. I made many batches and used the sugar cookie icing recipe on this site as another user suggested and handed them out in decorative baking baggies as gifts. They LOVED them !

Wow, I dont have a CLUE what I did wrong, but obviously I did not have the end result I was hoping for. The dough was so sticky, and falling apart that it could barely be handled, it had the consistency of pancake batter, it was awful! I followed the instructions exactly, didnt change a thing. I was very disappointed. My kids wanted some Christmas cookies, and they would not even hold their shape for the cookie cutters, ended up having to spoon them onto the cookie sheet. What went wrong?

I only gave these 4 stars because I had to change the margarine for butter. I thought I had margarine but I only had butter so I couldn't rate it on the actual recipe. Beside that these turned out great. I didn't change anything else in this recipe and they turned out perfect with tons of flavor. They are so easy I will make these again.

I loved this cookie recipe! The kids really liked the sweetness of the cookie and the rest of the family had never had such a soft sugar cookie before. I took the advice of others and used only 3 cups of flour, and melted the margarine. Thanks for these wonderful Xmas treats!
