Delicious cookie! I followed the reviews of others only using 3 cups flour and dropped bake temp to 350. Also, I used Earth Balance Vegan Buttery Spread instead of butter due to dairy allergies in my house. I think that I rolled them out too thin because they are kind of crispy but they are still delicious. The kids love them - especially my daughter who was so happy to be able to make cookies without dairy. Thanks for a keeper...

I did not like this recipe at all. The dough was crumbly and too dry to roll out. I had to add liquid (milk/water) until it was the right consistency. Taste was okay, though not great. Will not make again.

Not sure what happened but these were NOT soft for me. I followed all the directions and was disappointed when the first batch was crispy. I made a 1/2 batch and made sure I left them thick enough (I know that is key for getting soft cookies with any rolled dough) and didn't over bake them but, again, they were crispy when cooled. I think I'll try a different recipe next time.

These are truly the best sugar cookies! Like with everything, peoples tastes are different. I have the exact opposite opinion of reviewer Christi. (In fact today I purposely went back and read all the reviews of the BRSC recipe to find others who were not fond of it and then looked at which sugar cookie they rated higher. The consensus was this Soft Christmas cookie.) Last week I made the highly rated Best Rolled Sugar Cookie and found them extremely bland, tasteless, and cake-like. (Thanks goodness for Buttercream Icing!) The dough was also far too sticky and therfore very difficult to roll out. This recipe to me is far superior. I followed other reviewer suggestions and used only 3 cups of flour, butter instead of margarine, and baked at 350 for 8 minutes. Even without frosting or sprinkles these are very flavorful and roll out like a dream. My 7 year old actually rolled and cut-out more then I did. I will absolutely make these again.

I made this recipe and "The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies" at the same time. These were pretty good, but the other recipe was MUCH better. In addition, I found this dough a bit dry, even though I wrapped it in plastic and a plastic bag to chill in the refrigerator.

Good. I reduced the flour to 3 cups like the other reviews said. I tried both baking the cookies at 350 for 8-10 mintues and 400 for 6-8 mintues. At 350, they were way too crispy for my taste, at 400 they were great.

These are the best sugar cookies I have ever had! I just finished making them at 2:30am and I couldn't resist trying them - not the best pre-bedtime snack, but it was well worth it!! I only used 3 1/4 cups flour (reading error on my part) and baked at 350 degrees for 10 minutes as a previous poster suggested and they are perfect...just a tad golden brown around the outside. Can't wait to find another reason to make them!

I certainly have no complaints with this recipe! Super simple, super easy and the cookies came out nice and soft! Cooked each batch for exactly 8 minutes and they all came out perfect! Great flavor too, so these will definitely be eaten up. Decorated with Sugar Cookie Icing and sprinkles! We had a blast! Thanks!

I could never give a 5 star to anyone but my grandmother's recipe. I wanted to try a different recipe this year, and this was easy and worked great! Same as most of the people on this review list: cut the flour back to 3 cups.

OH MY GOSH! I just LOVED these cookies. I followed some other reviews and decreased the flour to 3 cups (I had a hard time getting that mixed in and couldn't imagine using more) I also used unsalted butter, decreased the temp of the oven to 350 and baked according to the look of the cookie I used large cookie cutters and baked for about 8 minutes. I also added about 1/4 tsp of almond extract to the batter. I am on my 4th batch today! Now if I could only find a great glaze for the top...

Excellent sugar cookie recipe. I used 3-1/4 C flour as another reviewer suggested saving the remainder of the flour for use when rolling the dough out. I also frosted my cookies using the Sugar Cookie Icing recipe submitted by JBS Box on this website. Delicious cookies. Soft and not overly sweet.

This is an okay cookie. I think sugar cookies are bland and boring so I usually add about 1tsp of Cinnamon and 1tsp of nutmeg. That makes things a bit more exciting. The dough is really yummy and my two year old had fun making stars and snowflakes.
