What a great recipe! I did as other suggested (use real butter and only 3 cups of flour). I rolled them into balls and flattened them. Then dipped them in melted candy wafers. They were thick and chewy. This will be our sugar cookie recipe for many years to come!! Thanks Georgie!!

Cookie cutters and I were not friends until I found this recipe! Tonight my family and I were finally able to enjoy sugar cookies that actually looked like the pumpkins, moons, & ghosts that they were meant to be! I did follow other reviewers advice and baked at 350 F for 8-10 minutes and rolled the dough out thick. I started to use only 3 overflowing cups of flour, but chickened out and added another 1/4 cup. Will definitely be my "go to" sugar cookie cut-out recipe.

This is simply the BEST rolled sugar cookie recipe ever! And they are so soft. A huge hit with my family and are requested multiple times throughout the year-not just for the Holidays. Simple recipe and very very easy to roll. My niece loves making them when she comes to visit. Will be a family tradition for years to come.

I thought I had finally found a recipe for soft, sugary cookies that I could decorate with my kids. Not so. Despite the rave reviews, the dough is extremely sticky/greasy and hard to work with. I chilled it for 3-4 hours and for what? I had to warm up the dough to get it from falling apart in bits. I could have saved myself the time and just fixed the cookies straight after making the dough. Cutting out the cookies were also difficult and my kids were frustrated because their creations kept falling apart. What a huge disappointment for everyone. By the way, the end result is not very soft at all. You must make the cookies quite thick in order to get any softness and then, it is likely due to them being undercooked. I had mine in the oven for 5 minutes and the bottoms were brown whilst the tops were nearly raw. Seems like I unfortunately dudded on what seemed to be a popular recipe. Oh well!

I have tried many different sugar cookie recipes, and this is by far the best one I have ever made! The dough was VERY easy to work with (no sticking to the rolling pin or to the counter) and the cookies held their shape wonderfully! And to top it off, the cookies tasted great too! I'm glad I found this recipe in time for the holidays!

WoW! My perfect sugar cookie is one that is thick and soft, and good with or without icing. I have searched this web-site for "my" perfect sugar cookie and I believe I found it. I originally tried "Best Rolled Sugar Cookies" and found they were crunchy even when rolled thick and under cooked. Then I tried "Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies" they were soft with a hint of cream cheese flavor and sometimes got sticky when rolling...closer to what I was looking for, but not your regular sugar cookie. I decided to try these today and used 1/2 cup butter & 1/2 cup margarine everything else the same. Cooled for 3 hrs, rolled out w/flour perfectly. Mine were done in 8 min w/no browning around edges. They stay very light colored, firm enough to decorate and handle, but soft and thick..yummm! I ate w/o icing and they were awesome, not to sweet like store bought sugar cookie dough, although they would be just as yummy with icing. Thanks Georgie! Will definitely make this holiday season and ice with "Sugar Cookie Icing"!

This isn't a bad recipe, i just find that they're not sweet enough. They have a great consistency though. Nice and fluffy. I think that if i do decide to make these again, i might try adding a little more sugar. Just personal preference. I think i like almost everything to be sweeter then most people prefer ;) Good recipe though!

I didnt like these too much. But it could just be my skills. I am a beginner, as I was rolling out the dough i used powdered sugar, i ran out of flour. I was very nervous not to overbake them. I think i might of actually underbaked them. If that makes any sense. I'll try another recipe as i continue to learn.

These are soooooo good! I do decrease the flour and also take care not to overbake. Take them out of the oven just as soon as they lose their gloss on top.

This is a really good recipe. I also only used 3 cups of flour and butter instead of margarine. If you want your cookies to maintain their shape, I recommend baking them at the 400 degree temp. At 350, they puffed up and spread too much. This would also be good with 1/2 tsp almond or lemon flavoring added.

Excellent sugar cookie! I made Valentine cookies for work and everyone raved about them! Perfect soft chewy cookie. A couple small changes...I too used butter instead of margarine as others suggested, and cooked them at 350 for 10-12 minutes.

These cookies were pretty awesome! I didn't stray too far from the original recipe, I just added a little more milk bit by bit until I had the dough at a nice consistency to work with. This will be my official sugar cookie recipe from now on!

I am giving this recipe five stars because I did do some tweeking and they came out excellent. I followed others' advice and used butter and 3 cups of flour. Instead of using vanilla extract, I used one vanilla bean, and 1/4 tsp of almond extract. Cut them into heart shapes and sprinkled with sugar before baking. The flavor was awesome. I think the next time I make them, I will use 1/2 butter and 1/2 butter flavored shortening, that way they wont' spread as much.

This makes a wonderful cookie. I just finished a triple batch of valentine cookies. Coming from a dairy background, I only use butter, and did lower the temp to 350 since I was using a convection oven, baked them 9 min. I was sure to cream the butter until it was truly light and fluffy (having a heavy duty stand mixer is a benefit) and rolled them out on a silicon mat, eliminating the need for much flour. They hold their shape and stay soft, a plus when making them for children. I frosted some with Sugar Cookie Frosting and drizzled some with chocolate. They taste great and make a wonderful presentation.

Used recipe to make Valentines cookies for the kids teachers. It was very easy to make and after playing with time I had perfect moist chewy cookies. Took tip from previous post about cookies are done when center no longer looks wet regardless if browned on edges. Thanks for the recipe will be making a batch for my sons school in a few weeks.
