I made these tonight and although they tasted okay, they were really greasy from the shortening. Still searching for another recipe, but with a few changes, this one could be a lot better...especially decreasing the shortening.

I made this recipe using the butter-flavored Crisco shortening after reading other reviews on this site. I followed this recipe exactly, except that I added a touch of cinnamon to the flour as well. 9 minutes in the oven yielded gorgeous looking cookies. My only issue was that the cookies puffed up nice and golden and then fell flat when I took them out of the oven. I think people who experienced similar problems probably made the same mistake I did... using old baking soda. I forgot to buy new baking soda and thought I could get by with the old stuff. I was wrong. I made six dozen cookies to bring into work. They were gone in less than two hours and there were still people out there who didn't get any!

This is my go-to Snickerdoodle recipe. Very easy to make and absolutely wonderful! I don't keep shortening on hand, so substituted the same amount of butter, and they were still a dream. Great recipe!

First time I made this recipe I followed the instructions to a T, except for the shortening (I used butter flavored Crisco), they were delicious, but came out WAY too puffy for my taste. Next time I used half butter flavored Crisco and half margarine. Instead of using the margarine softened, I melted it since the dough was a little bit dry to work with. I added 1 tsp vanilla and 1/8 tsp almond extract in the sugar/shortening mixture to add more flavor. I reduced the baking soda and cream of tartar by half and that didn't affect at all the texture of the cookies, they came out with the perfect puffiness and with a much better taste!

Made exactly as described- they were PERFECT. I had to cut my children off- they wanted to eat them all. I made them a little smaller than a walnut and made about 70! They baked 10 minutes the first batch on each cookie sheet, then 8 minutes after that since the cookie sheet was warm. This is a perfect snickerdoodle!

Had never had snickerdoodles before..must be my sheltered boring life . Anyway someone brought some into work one day...not bad, but store bought. I made some that night followed this recipe (added a tsp. more cinnamon to dry ingredients and used butter flavored shortening). They were outstanding. Will definitely make again as they do not last long around the house. Thanks for this KEEPER recipe.
