This is an AUTHENTIC Southern Sweet Tea recipe! I haven't been able to find anything close to southern sweet tea here in the west (not even McDonald's as other folks say) until now. I've used orange pekoe and green (not the greatest) and Nutcracker seasonal. The great thing with the Nutcracker seasonal is tha, if you use a 1/4c sweetened condensed milk blended to 16oz. of tea, you have Thai tea. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe and keep the tea in my fridge constantly. Thanks so much for this!

I am a northerner, but recall the delicious sweet tay I had in the south and have been craving it when the weather up north gets warm. I decided to check allrecipes.com (my favorite site) and found this recipe. I followed it exactly except for the amount of sugar which I cut back to 3/4 cup per other reviews. Personally, I still found it a bit sweet for my taste, so next time I will start with a half cup and taste from there. This tea was delicious--and will be my drink this summer!!!

This makes perfect Southern Sweet Tea every time. The pinch of baking soda keeps the tea smooth. I usually double this recipe, and it can also be made with Splenda for a lower calorie drink.

This is exactly how I made my Southern Sweet tea for years until I discovered Lipton's Cold Brew tea bags. You make your tea just the same way, only with no boiling!! use cold water and three tea bags then add the sugar and baking soda and stir well. I will let mine brew for 30-min. to an hour because I like it strong, but you can go with it in 10 min. if you are in a pinch.

Okay, I never review recipes, just cause I'm lazy...but this is an amazing thing! Add baking soda to tea and no more bitterness! I am so happy right now! Thank you for this tip, I will pass along to everyone!!

Way to sweet for me, but I added some lemon juice, which cut it and added nice flavor.

I haven't made a good pitcher of tea in a long time, it always comes out bitter and cloudy. I have tried many different things like using only bottled water, different tea bags etc, all to no avail. Good sweet tea has always eluded me, until now. I honestly thought I would have to buy sweet tea forever! I think the baking soda must be the trick, because on my first try with this recipe the tea came out perfect! The amount of sweetness is just right for my taste, and it isn't bitter or cloudy at all! Thanks so much for sharing this with me, because truthfully, sweet tea is about all I drink and it sure will be nice to make it at home! I judge a restaurant by the sweet tea they serve, and this is about as good or better than any I've been to. Thanks again! YUMMY!

This recipe was quick and very easy to make. For my taste, I would increase the number of tea bags since I thought that the flavor of the tea didn't stand out enough against the sugar (I used Lipton tea bags so maybe they were weak?), but it's true that the bitterness isn't there, and if that's due to the baking soda, then hats off to whoever discovered the trick!

This is really great. The first time I doubled it and it had a bit of an after taste. The next time, I used 10 tea bags and it was great!

I was just about ready to go to McDonald's to get a Sweet tea when I thought I should go to allrecipes and see if there was a recipe for it. Boy, am I glad I found one! YUMMY! I didn't have just plain black Lipton tea in the house, so I used some White and Red tea instead. Turned out GREAT! I won't have to head to McD's for my fix anymore! Thanks for sharing!

This tea is excellent! I used 1 Cup sugar. I love sweet tea, and thought I'd start making my own instead of always buying it. My Husband was a little skeptical at first until he tasted it. He thinks it could use some more sugar, but I think next time I might stick to 3/4Cup or just a tad bit more.

Perfect Sweet Tea! I needed a recipe for the perfect tea because I always seems to come out too sweet or not sweet enough. I think this was perfect! Not too sweet, but just right. I also just made this on the stove. Super easy and very yummy! Thanks!

I never heard of putting Baking Soda in iced tea, its great! I agree with the other reviewer saying it cut out the bitter taste. - also, the pinch wasn't enough for me, I added more even after it was cold and it worked great.

This is the best sweet tea I've made yet...sure pays to make GOOD sweet tea when you're the city girl in a small town! This is especially good if you add peach or raspberry syrup too. :0)
