This recipe was great! Didn't have to rush last minute to get the potatoes ready. And was able to serve them hot throughout the meal. Will now be a staple for my Thanksgivings!

Great alternative to do potatoes! We had this with our Thanksgiving meal and loved it.

It just gets better and better each year! To fill my round crockpot, I use 5lbs of Russett potatoes. The morning it is to be served, I add pats of real butter and pour in some milk and stir & set it on low for 3-4 hours. This year I used whole milk and it made a world of difference--we usually have only non-fat milk in our house.

I used russett potatoes and these were YUMMY! Will always make Thanksgiving this way. Didn't taste the garlic in them though so maybe will add more next time. Make sure you mix the potatoes periodically in the crock.

Whenever a mashed potatoe recipe is to be held pending guest arrival or serving large groups, I "save the water in which potatoes" are cooked & then add potatoe water as needed in order for the potatoes to keep soft & fluffy or not dried out.

These were a big hit. It was great to free up the stove. I was afraid that they would dry up, and they never did. They stayed very hot. I actually prepared the night before and then just turned on the crockpot the next day.

These mashed potatoes are awesome! I used a can of chicken broth instead of the buoillon cubes, 1/4 cup of half and half, light sour cream, and left the skin on. My mom said they were the best potatoes she'd ever had!

These were excellent. I consider myself an accomplished cook but I always seem to have watery mashed potatoes. This recipe not only helped me out in the chaos of Thanksgiving day cooking, but also resulted in the most lovely creamy and fluffy potatoes. I did double the recipe but found I needed about 1 cup of milk to make them less stiff. Also did the towel trick others suggested and that worked brilliantly.

You really cannot go wrong with this! This is the perfect combination of flavors. I used the towel under the crock pot lid...it worked great keeping the extra moisture under control. I loved how warm these were. I'm really not sure how people have problems making these...it's common sense. You reserve a little bit of the water to use to get these to a creamy consistency while your mashing them. If you put too much of the reserved water in....well your going to have bad results I would imagine. Loved this recipe. This was complimented on over and over at thanksgiving...give this a try!

This is an awesome recipe for make-ahead mashed potatoes! I think that some of the cooks who gave this low reviews miss the point - this recipe and preparation aren't supposed to save you time. You do still have to peel, boil, mash, etc.... The point is: You don't have the last minute rush trying to make the mashed potatoes just when everything else is ready. You don't have to worry that your potatoes are ready too early when other things are still cooking, and might get cold before you put them on the table. You don't have to worry that you put your potatoes on a burner "just to keep them warm" and they end up scorching by accident. You can make these and take to a friend's or a potluck, and no matter what else is cooking, all you need is a little bit of counter space and a plug in. Plus, these are just really super tasty. I love my own traditional butter and milk mashed potatoes too, but this recipe is a close second... maybe tied since it is so nice to be able to make them ahead of time. I took the suggestions to use a cloth towel in between crock and lid while cooking (also used when the crock was in the fridge overnight, before cooking). When I was mashing everything I was a bit worried because it was very runny... it didn't stay that way. I didn't add butter after cooking, because I thought they were rich enough, and didn't want to make them runny again. Everyone loved them, and I will definitely make again.

I prefer my milk and butter pototaoes. they weren't awful and fine for something different but I took to a pot luck and that wasn't very smart of me.

I've always made my mashed potatoes with butter and milk. I tried these for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago, and they are delicious! In addition, it removes the stress of having to mash the potatoes and get everything else on the table right before for a holiday meal. It is one less thing to do! This is now my mashed potato recipe for holidays. I will be making these again this year for Thanksgiving. Oh yeah, I think the butter is a MUST! But then again, I love my butter! I don't eat mashed potatoes often, so treating myself once or twice a year with buttery mashed potatoes is okay!

I made these for our dinner last night--amazing! It was a hit across the board with all our Thanksgiving guests! I used the chive and onion cream cheese, mixed in freshly shredded parmesan cheese, fresh chives, and oregano, and then laid a towel under the crock pot lid to collect the extra moisture. When time to serve, I beat them once more and topped with a few more chives and fresh parmesan for looks. Enjoy!
