I have tried several do ahead mashed potato recipes and this is by far the best. My search is finally over. Anything that can add less stress to turkey day for me is a winner. I did not change a thing and tried them on company this weekend so I would not be disappoined on turkey day. Everyone loved them. Thanks so much BWAVE. I used the rest of the liquid from the recipe for the Michigander Turkey recipe from this site and that worked too. I hate to waste anything so I will repeat the same for turkey day.

I wasn't sure how the potatoes would be after sitting in the crock pot all day while I was at work, but they were the best mased potatoes we ever had. The only change that I did was to add some sour cream to the potatoes before mashing.

Very good and I loved the luxury of making these hours before dinner. Less to do once the guests arrive. My husband and I both thought they tasted better right after they were whipped, as opposed to after they were in the crock pot.

i made them 2 days in advance. used russet potatoes boiled w/ whole garlic, whipped everything in my standing mixer(make sure not to exceed med speed level), and sprayed my slow cooker. make sure to stir these periodically.these were hot for me after 1hr 30 mins even straight out of the fridge.i didnt need the towel or the butter(could just be my slow cooker, though).this was very good w/ bbq chix and creamed spinach casserole. will bring this as a side for thanksgiving. MAKE THESE!!!

I love this idea. And the addition of the sour cream and cream cheese made for a very creamy, slightly tangy potato, which we enjoyed. I didn't really care for these with gravy though, so I will stick to my old stand-by recipe when I want to have gravy.

Being able to prepare early and keep warm, this recipe scores high with me. It made a huge difference of ease at Thanksgiving dinner (Canadian). No more crowding pots on the stove top. Great flavour and a very creamy texture.

These are some good stuff. Instead of dirtying 2 pans I just cranked my nesco oven up to 500 and boiled the potatos in there. Mashed em up in there as well. We really enjoyed these and I loved the ease of having them in the slow cooker ready to go while I was frying chicken. I will use this one on holidays as well!!

I used milk instead of reserved water to reach desired consistency and chive cream cheese (all I had on hand) and I really liked the added flavor the crm chs gave it. I used fresh roasted garlic too! I did not find this to be more work than normal mashed potatoes. Not sure why others did?!?!

Okay, at first I was totally afraid cause they seemed too runny, and I was the one that was supposed to bring the mashed potatoes to Thanksgiving. As they started to cool they became really thick and yummy. Everyone loved them!! :)

Definitely the best mashed potatoes. The first time I made these was 2 years ago for a Thanksgiving dinner at the office. I have never in my life heard people rave so much about potatoes! That's all they talked about for days. It blew my mind the *mashed potatoes* were the highlight of the entire Thanksgiving dinner! Even months later, my coworkers were emailing me telling me they had made these for dinner the night before. I personally don't find them to be a lot of work. I tend to peel my potatoes, so that's the hardest part -- everything else is compeltely easy. The red potatoes are the key, though. I made these with russet potatoes this weekend because I had gotten a great deal, and the flavors don't develop as well with the russets. I was cooking for a vegetarian so I had also substituted vegetable stock for the chicken bouillon. Don't get me wrong, they were still better than any other mashed potatoes I've eaten, just not quite as good as they are with the baby reds. Anyway, YUM, they're delicious. My boyfriend, coworkers, and family beg for these potatoes, and I don't blame them at all.

I agree, they are a lot of work, but for a special holiday, they are just distinct enough to put in the effort. Love these potatoes and can't wait to make them for Thanksgiving.

I'm giving this 4 out of 5 only because following the recipe exactly makes my potatoes super runny. haven't quite got the qty's down yet to make it nice and thick the way I want it - but the taste is good!

If you love a baked potato w/ sour cream on it than you'll love this recipe. We don't... I followed the recipe almost exactly, I added 2 tbs of garlic b/c we LOVE garlic and it still could of used more garlic. For me, all I could taste was the sour cream. Those who love that taste loved these potatoes but that was only 2 out of 9 people. I was looking for a more garlic mashed potato like you get at a resturant. BUT I did Love the fact that you can use the slow cooker and I will do that in the future w/ a different recipe and I also took others suggestion to put a dish cloth over the crock pot before you put on the lid to help catch condensation and that worked great! This was a very easy recipe to do and I can definatly see how this would come in handy on a busy holiday.
