This was such a wonderful recipe! So simple and easy, yet flavorful. I didn't find the ham to be too sweet either. I will be preparing my ham this way from now on!

I made this tonight with a bone in- shank end smoked spiral cut ham. I did reduced the sugar amount in half, added ground cloves and nutmeg plus 2 cups of apple cider and cooked for 4 hours. Came out great and will do it again. I loved the fact that it freed up the oven for other dishes.

Used a 7# spiral smoked ham. 8 hours was too long but still tasted great! Will use this recipe all the time now.

This is the first time I've tried to cook something in the slow cooker where the lid wouldn't fit, so I viewed this as an experiment. I found nothing labeled "picnic ham" -- I used a spiral sliced cured ham with bone in. I checked the fit in the slow cooker before I unwrapped it. I followed the directions, wrapped the entire thing in extra-wide foil (opening on top) and covered it all up with more foil in place of the lid as tightly as I could manage. I had my doubts but this humongous hunk of meat turned out amazing.

I had a 12 lb ham to cook for Christmas dinner but didnt want to use my tiny oven. I cut the ham in half and used my two slow cookers, Ran out of brown sugar so I added 1 1/2 cups brown sugar with 1/2 cup splenda and it tastes amazing!!! Perfect for my mom who is a diabetic.

Was missing a lot. Just ham and brown sugar? Needs to have some pineapple or yams or?. Needs a lot of tweeking,.

The recipe was way too sweet for me (it's just a personal preference.) I tried it again in the crockpot using a spiral sliced ham, and pouring 1 can of cola on the ham, instead of the brown sugar and cooking it on low for about 5 hours. The sweetness was perfect for me, and I do believe it would be better for diabetics also. Also, to cut the sweetness, you can add mustard, which, when used with brown sugar is quite good. This basic recipe has hundreds of variations depending on personal tastes. You can add cranberry sauce and mustard for a really delicious taste.

I have been doing this for years, I also add a can of beer and put crushed cloves in the bottom of slow cooler or electric roaster depending how big the ham is
