this is the best recipe I think I've ever tried on AR! so easy and delicious. from now on I will only use this recipe for carnitas. Oh, but I didn't add the cinnamon. I just couldn't make myself do it, lol, but it still came out great. I'll be making this again and often! thanks for the recipe!

This is a fabulous recipe -- it doesn't get any easier than this. The spices are wonderful and the smells while cooking are enough to make your mouth water. We had tacos with this and I also made a tasty chili out of some that I chopped and reserved before shredding the rest.

This pork was amazing! I put everything in my slow cooker, then shred the pork and served it in pitas with a garlic sauce (1/3 cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons milk, 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped), topped with tomatoes and lettuce - my husband went back for thirds and asked if there was any leftover for his lunch the next day! this has become a regular in our meal rotation!

I actually like the use of cinnamon in savory dishes, (found a lot in Greek cuisine) and I enjoyed the faint flavor it left on this slow cooked pork carnitas. We used the pork for tacos one night, and added BBQ sauce to it for sandwiches the next. I thought this meat was exceptionally tasty! Don't be afraid to try the cinnamon in it, it really adds something interesting.

Holy cow this was good! Next time I will reduce the cinnamon as my husband and I found it a little disconcerting, but I won't eliminate it completely - it's really, really good, and the cinnamon gives it a little extra something. We just found it to be a little TOO much "something". :) We ate it in corn tortillas with avocado, tomato, and a little bit of light sour cream. This is going in my keeper file!

Made this for my family on Mother's Day. I doubled the spices and that really helped. I also spread the pork out on a baking sheet after pulling it and poured a bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola over it, then stuck it in the oven at 400 for 20 minutes to get it crispy on the outside, and that really pulled everything together. It was perfect and juicy on the inside and sweet and crispy on the outside. I would definitely suggest these additions to the recipe to add a little flair to your Carnitas and make for a memorable meal. Otherwise a fantastic recipe. Thanks!

This was super easy to make. I love anything that can be made using a slow cooker. I do agree with other posters; I doubled the rub (all except the cinnamon). I think next time i may use just a pinch of cinnamon- even with just 1/4 teaspoon it was still a little over powering. Regardless this was really, really good.

Made the recipe as directed, but after shredding the pork, I put it on a cookie sheet and broiled the meat for about 5 min. to get the top crispy. It was outstanding and my husband couldn't stop raving about it. We ate the meat in tacos with corn tortillas with onions, cilantro, and salsa. Even I (who doesn't normally care for carnitas) loved this recipe, thanks!

I only had a 2Lb pork sirloin roast, but I kept the ingredient amounts the same. Next time I'll add more of everything but the cinnamon--maybe leave that out all together since I didn't like the smell of it with the rest of the yummy smells (although I LOVE the taste and smell of cinnamon). I also knew my roast would only take 3 hours to cook on med-high. I took the advice of others and cubed the meat after slow cooking, and roasted in the oven before shredding more. I served in tortillas with fillings, and Spanish Rice II. I'll be making again. We all loved it.

This came out great - I tripled the spices and rubbed it on the meat the night before (I left out the cinnamon). The next morning I put it in the slow cooker with four cracked cloves of garlic and left it in all day, it fell apart when I tried to take it out of the crock pot. I added some of the juice back into the shredded meat as some reviewers suggested and seasoned with a little salt, pepper and garlic powder and made tacos. For some reason I think of carnitas as having more of a tomato-y sauce? As for the leftovers, I may try baking them in the oven as some suggested. Thanks for an easy recipe that works really well!

I smelled this cooking and had a flashback to when I was a kid in the kitchen of my great grandmother, Ruby Ortiz, who was once married to the mayor of Santa Fe. Very authentic, yummy recipe!

These were very good. They were kinda sweet from the cinnamon. I used beef stock instead of chicken cuz thats what I had on hand. This meat was literally falling apart. We put it in tacos and burritos. I will be making again! :)

I made a beef version of this recipe. Used chuck meat (~3 lb), 1/2 c. beef broth instead of chicken, plus added a can of diced tomatoes with green chilis. 11 hours in the crock and it turned out fabulous. even better the next day!

I've made this recipe several times and every time I use different suggestions given on this site. Some suggest doubling the spice mix, others suggest more or less of one ingredient or another. My favorite thing about this recipe is that while it is very good on it's own, once you make it a few times you can get a feel for how you want to tweak it to your own liking. Very good and easy for someone new to slow cooker cooking.
