This is an awesome recipe. I changed it a tiny bit and instead of water, added 2 cups of beef broth. Also, the 2nd time I made it I forgot to get the onion soup mix so I added 1 can of condensed french onion soup...tasted just as good. I made this on a cold 9 degree day for the boys to eat while watching the football games and boy it was a hit!

I made this stew (with a few minor modifications), and it turned out soooo very good! It's a keeper for our family! I changed it to Serve 6, so we could have leftovers another day. To this recipe I added salt and pepper to the flour to coat the meat, and a red pepper and two celery stalks and two minced garlic cloves to the vegetables, and about 2/3 cup of ketchup and two bay leaves before I set it to cook. Yummy!

I'm not really a fan of this - I found it way too bland. The meat and vegetables came out wonderfully tender, but they, and the sauce, just had very little flavor.

I made this stew but changed a few things. I used beer rather than wine, used a package of "beef stew mix" rather than the onion soup mix...and to thicken it up a bit (I like thicker stew) at the last half hour or so I added mashed potato flakes. Served it to about 10 people...everyone said it was the best stew they EVER had...HUGE hit! Thanks!

I followed the recipe exactly as written and while it was pretty good (and not as time consuming as some reviews suggest), I didn't find it to be very stew-like. It was really thick and more like eating roast beef with vegetables. This may be a function of slow cooker size or how much liquid evaporates from your cooker, but is something to consider if you know your slow cooker is prone to losing liquid.

This recipe makes awesome beef stew. The only change I made was to substitute beef broth for water. I also doubled the amount of liquid.

This is very good beef stew! I do have to make a couple changes though. I cut the onion way back (to only 1/2 an onion) and I also add salt to the stew toward the end of the cooking time - it definitely needs it. I also find the flour/water at the end to be completely unnecessary. In fact, mine is usually so thick that I have to add a little beef broth to thin it out a little. Cooking the potatoes all day thickens it up nicely. Last time I made it, I didn't have any wine and I didn't miss it at all so I'll probably just omit it from now on.

This beef stew was really good, but I couldn't rate it 5 stars because I felt it lacked flavor. Maybe more salt or spices? Something. But overall it was very good.

This was really good. I am making it for the second time right now, I did think it was a little thick, so I added more water this time around. I also added some fresh garlic and extra carrots. My husband loves it! Definitely a keeper!

AMAZING!! WE ate this 2 nights in a row!! I added a lot more red wine to the final mix. I thought it tasted to "flour-E" without it. Other than that it was very very good!

Easy recipe - have made several times and comes out perfect each time!! The meat is so tender and the wine just adds that extra something. I'll keep making it!!!

This recipe was great!! I only made it once but changed it a bit...I scaled it down to 3 servings, added corn and 1 can of beef stock, garlic powder and 2 tablespoons of ketchup. It was delish and I will definitely make it again!!
