This was great. I added a little extra wine, celery,a bay leaf and a little shake of cinnamon!(Sounds weird but it was very good!)

This was super! I used beef broth instead of onion soup and was generous with the wine. Will certainly make again!

This was excellent. I made it for Super Bowl - everyone loved it. I had been craving beef stew - and yay for left overs... i suspect it will be even better today! I didnt have the wine so I used extra water, and i used corn starch instead of flour. Thanks so much - great comfort food! I cant wait to try it again with the wine. OM NOM NOM!

Great odors from this recipe but that is about all. Non of us could finish our first bowl. We did not care for the flavor of the wine. I will however try again without the wine.

A little bland. Needs some shots of hot sauce or something else?? Will try again and adjust seasonings.

This was an excellent beef stew. I didn't really change anything except the amount of veggies. Not much more to add except.. yummy!

Everyone thought turned out very good. Substituted the red wine for beef broth and omitted the onions. Will definitely make again!

The stew was so good that we made it again this pass Sunday. The beef stew was one of the best we ever had. If you don't try it, you are making a big misstate. Budda Man

When it's eight below outside, what could be better than a crock pot of stew? I'm making this for the second time as it's now on my husband's list of all time favorites. I added more potatoes and carrots than called for in the recipe. I didn't have onion soup mix so I just used beef broth instead of water. I also added fresh mushrooms and bay leaves. I didn't find it necessary to add flour at the end. It thickened up beautifully.

So very good and easy. I used a couple of red potatoes,a yam and a baking potato and it was delicious, no need for thickening. Of course, I added some garlic. At the end of the cooking I added some frozen peas for color. The family loved it

This was pretty good, a bit bland. I added turnips and sweet potatoes for flavor and lots more pepper (double or more) Texture was wonderful. Comfort food to the max.

I just made this for the first time. I did not have wine, but I improvised with 50/50 Southern Comfort and boiling water (I would not go out of my way for this, but it was in the house and no one was drinking it) and added 3 stalks of celery, because, well, I'm Irish and love celery in stew. Don't add more liquid if you think there is not enough, just stir it up a bit. Juices will come out of the fats in the beef in time. Cooked on high 45 min and low 4.5 hours, could have gone a little longer to reduce the broth to a stewy consistency but I could not wait any longer! My house smells awesome and this filling stew will be made again!

trying to cut calories, i cut the meat in half and doubled the carrots, added 2 chopped tomatoes, cut the butter, and probably used about 1/2 cup wine. you can add/subtract anything really, this recipe is foolproof!

I cooked this recipe for my family of four. After smelling it cook all day, I was quite ready to try it by the time it was finished. We all decided that it needed some seasoning. It was quite bland and definitely needed something to perk it up. It was acceptable, but not something that I would trouble to make again.

I do not like Beef Stew but THIS is NOT "beef stew" - it is HEAVEN!!! Like so many others, I substituted the water with wine. I also ended up using veggie soup mix because I couldn't find the onion soup mix... I added extra dried minced onion to it and I also added three cloves of chopped garlic and 1/4 tsp of Thyme along with a pinch of rosemary... it was sooo good that the 12 servings I made fed four people with just enough left over for us to all eat lunch today.

This recipe is a little bland. It may be because I didn't complete all the pre-Crock Pot steps. Also, perhaps some additional garlic powder, more boullion or more salt/pepper would improve the flavor. I only omitted the carrots.
