Honestly the BEST stew I have ever had! easy to put together and so delicious. I followed the directions to a T and I could not have been happier with the results.

This recipe was great!! I only made it once but changed it a bit...I scaled it down to 3 servings, added corn and 1 can of beef stock, garlic powder and 2 tablespoons of ketchup. It was delish and I will definitely make it again!!

Very Yummy and easy to adjust to match your personal preferences. I added a little celery and a can of tomato. I used Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix with great results. Thanks for a great recipe.

This is a perfectly simple, yet delicious, beef stew recipe. I should probably rate it 5 stars, but since I slightly tweeked the recipe I give it a four since my rule is 5 stars only if I make no changes. The only changes I made are to add 4 cloves of garlic, I used 1 cup water and 2 cups Merlot for my liquid (it still could have used another cup of liquid), but the extra wine added a richness water could not achieve. I also used more carrots since the pot seemed to be lacking. Simple changes to suit our taste. Seasoned just right...didn't add or regret not adding any seasoning. Kept us warm and satisfied! Thanks.

Great hearty stew, just what I was craving for when the cool rainy nights returned. It wouldn't fit in my crock pot so I simmered it in a stock pot for about 6 hours. I added 2 cups cut beans, 3 cloves of minced garlic, worcestershire sauce, and about 1/4 cup catsup for the body and sweetening it offered. I ended up using about 1/2 cup of wine and 1/2 cup of water to deglaze the pan, then added water to the pot until it was about 1" over the contents. The idea of using a paste of warm wine and flour to thicken was great. Topped with dumplings. My family loved this.

This is very good. There is a bit of prep but it's worth it! I have a 3 quart crock and this was almost too much until it cooked down a bit. Next time I'll use 2 potatoes, 1-2 pounds meat. I like onions but I thought 3 was way too many so I only used one. To cut down on calories and fat I eliminated the butter and olive oil and used cooking spray instead. Delicious and filling.

This is fantastic. I followed everything exactly but at the end I added some salt, garlic salt and Beef Seasoning. That gave it an even nicer flavor. I think next time I will cut back on the meat and maybe use only 2 pounds, and add in more carrots and maybe other onion. I want to try putting in some celery too. All in all a fantastic recipe - this will now be my go-to Beef Stew recipe.

Let me preface this by saying I grew up eating inedible beef stew (the meat was so tough, you literally couldn't chew it). So, every time I attempt beef stew, I expect the worst. This time, I got the best. I had some beef sirloin in my freezer from "who knows when?" which I thawed and cut into very small pieces (I have a toddler who was going to eat this). I also diced rather than cubed the potatoes. The carrots were frozen cut carrots. I cut the recipe in half because I have a smaller crockpot. I *may* have forgotten to half the black pepper, but I don't think so - it was a little much - I liked it, but my son thought it was too spicy. The beef was ridiculously tender, the potatoes and carrots were wonderfully soft, and though the sauce came out a little lumpy looking (from the original flour, I think because the flour at the end I made sure to stir like crazy before adding) and so it was an ugly stew, but who cares - it tasted GREAT.

This is a great base recipe for beef stew. I added bay leaf, mushrooms and extra spice for my own tastes. It was delicious. I served it to guests on a chilly day and they loved it!

YUM! This was the best stew I ever made! I used only 2 lbs of meat, and added some frozen corn and more salt at the end. It definitely took more time to prep (about 30 minutes), but was worth almost being late to work for.

Fantastic! Even my father in law, who claims he has a "Delicate Stomach" (AKA: Fear Of Trying New Things) gobbled this up with a fervor previously unseen. Additions: A touch more red wine, basil, garlic, Penzey's Black & Red (black pepper & cayenne), celery, and corn.

Just delicious! At first I was weary of the flavor, but that was my inexperience in good cooking. After cooking for 8 hours in the crock pot it was just like my Mom's -- my ultimate goal! I added celery and corn because I had them on hand. Also, instead of water and wine I used about 4 cups of water with 4 beef boullion cubes for flavor. Not an exact measure -- I just made sure everything was covered in broth and used 1 boullion cube per cup of water. This was great! The meat was SO tender.

Wow! Followed the recipe exactly with two exceptions. I took a 3 pound roast and cut it into cube beef bite sized pieces and I used regular carrots instead of baby carrots. My husband said that it must be good because he was looking forward to leftovers the next day! The next day it seemed to taste even better after the flavors had a chance to marinate. The roast was soooooo tender even after heating up in the microwave the following day. Thanks!

Definitely good, but nothing too exciting. Maybe I just don't get excited enough about beef stew! Seemed a little involved at the beginning for a slow cooker recipe. A recent review said it was too salty, but I thought it needed salt. Would probably make a nice cold, rainy/snowy day meal!
