I changed only a couple of things. I, also used 1/3 cup of flour and brown the meat before putting in the slow cooker. After 9.5 hours of cooking I added some mushrooms and wine. It was absolutely delish. Next time I am thinking of adding some peas to it. I have tried many stew recipes and did not care for them. This is a great recipe.

This is so easy and delicious. I was making this to freeze and I ended up making two batches because my husband loved it so much that he ate the first batch up before I could get it to the freezer. I look forward to thawing out batch 2 on a cold day!

I put this together the night before and put the crockpot dish in the fridge. The next morning, I just had to throw the dish in the crockpot and by the time we got home from work, we had a delicious dinner waiting for us!

I didn't change a thing except adding a little extra celery and potatoes. This recipe was simple and delicious and EASY! I threw it in my crock pot and in a few hours my house smelled of delicious stew. Thanks for the recipe BUCHKO!

Good for rotation. I don't really like the texture of the potatoes cooked in the crock pot. Next time I will boil them first.

The whole family liked this but wasn't wow'd. I added 1/2 cup red wine as suggested. I also added a bit of italian seasoning. Still didn't seem seasoned enough. I think that 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tsp of worcestershire is not enough salt for 2 lbs of meat and vegetables.

Sorry, not for me. It cooked to long and I didn't like the flavor of the bay leaf in it.

What I liked best about this recipe is that it's simple. Just throw everything into the slow cooker and let it do its thing. I did not follow the more advanced recipe, and it came out excellent. Made a few tiny changes, I used 2 cups of beef broth, and one packet of McCormick's Slow Cooker Hearty Beef Stew seasoning instead of having to add all the individual spices. Left out the bay leaf. Towards the end of cooking, I stirred in 1/4 cup of garlic mashed potato flakes, which helped thicken the sauce and give it a "kick." Delicious, will make again.

i've been wanting to make a classic beef stew like my mom made when i was a kid and this recipe was perfect! i only made a few small changes: i added only 2 potatoes and 2 carrots and left out the celery. i also added 1 tsp of allspice. next time, i might go heavier on the spices, because i like lots of flavor, otherwise, the recipe comes out perfectly as written. i will definitely be making this again!

used 3 cups of broth, splash of red cooking wine, could use more garlic. Soaked up the broth, very thick.

LOVE THIS RECIPE! As is...it is so good. With modifications suggested, it tasted too rich too me...much like the canned variety. Will stick to the original recipe!

Turned out excellent, got lots of good reviews. Put meat in slow cooker, sprinkled flour, seasoned salt, pepper on it, mixed it up. Added vegetables (including frozen corn) and a packet of beef stew seasoning. 3 cups of beef stock 1/2 cup red wine, 1T worcesershire. About 9 to 9.5 hrs on low and it was chow time, served with thick slices of crusty bread.

My family loves this! I brown the meat in a skillet first then pour the meat and the juice in the pot. I also use more beef broth. It's great!

this was a good basic stew recipe. great on its own or used as a foundation for getting creative! try adding sweet potatoes and chopped oranges for a great fall spin on a classic.
