I don't actually have a slow cooker, so instead I simmered it on the stove on low heat. I didn't bother to flour the meat and since I used water instead of stock, I had to add some additional salt. Also, sometimes I will use sweet potatoes in place of white ones because I like the sweetness that it give the whole dish, and the extra nutrients are a plus.

This is really fantastic, and I will definitely make this again! The only addition I made was adding some mushrooms and about 1/4 cup red wine. The amount of flour is perfect.

I followed the recipe even though my gut told me I should sear the beef first. I should have listened to my gut. Nothing spectacular - I won't be making it again.

Made this for our family Christmas get together - doubled the recipe and only had one small bowl left! Everyone loved it! Very yummy stew and easy to make!

We just made this for the first time today and it's absolutely delicious. We used venison stew meat instead of beef and omitted the celery (because I don't like it and don't buy it), but otherwise followed the recipe as it's written. We cooked it on high for 6 hours and it's perfect. This recipe is a keeper. No more buying beef stew seasoning packets at the store for this family.

Simple and awesome just the way it is written! The beef was sooo tender and the flavor was perfect! I did add just a splash of red wine, but that was the only change I made. Thanks for such a fantastic recipe!

This was sooooo yummy. I followed other reviewers suggestions and dredged the beef in flour, browned it, and then deglazed the pan with the broth and a cup of red wine. WOW! Both of my picky eater kids loved it.

Wow!! Very good. I used canned carrots because that is all I usually have, and it was awesome. Served with white rice and hubby, two-year old and I loved it!!!

This beef stew is so tasty, and the perfect solution to a cold, winter day. Because I prefer to have more broth in my stew, I used 2 cups of beef broth (1 Swanson's can). Also, after the stew had been cooking for about an hour, I added 1 cup of water. This created more broth, and helped soften vegetables. I used skin-on red potatoes as well- YUM!

I just made this today. I had some cheap steaks that I was going to marinate and grill but the weather didn't cooperate...freezing rain yuck! So I pulled out my trusty slow cooker and began. Cubed the steaks and followed the recipe. Unfortunately I didn't have beef broth so I used chicken broth and added 2 beef bouillon cubes. Otherwise followed the recipe except for a few shakes of cayenne pepper, we like it zippy. Cooked on high for 5 hours then removed the lid for about 45 to thicken an bit more, served over egg noodles and yummy. I plan to stir a little sour cream into the left overs and server over noodle again for a little different twist. I think this would be good with the addition of mushrooms also, enjoy

Not impressed with flavor. Also, too many potatoes. But... you can easily modify spices and ingredient ratios to your taste.
