I was so down on beef stew before I found this one! Tweaked with 1/2 cup red wine, 1 t. crushed rosemary and 1 t. thyme, 1 T. worchestershire sauce, and 1/2 lb. parsnips.

We thought this recipes was very bland and had little flavor. After 9 hours on low my beef had turned to mush also. There was not enough juice in my opinion either. I like a soupy type stew. I may try again to make with alot of modifications.

The BEST! I about doubled the recipie and my slow cooker was topped full! But we ate it all in one night since we had company for dinner. ( I have a large crockpot to) I also added a mccormick beef stew seasoning packet.

This recipe was OK in my opinion. There wasn't anything exceptional about it. I pretty much followed the recipe except that I didn't have any celery. I did brown the beef beforehand like some reviewers suggested, but I thought that this stew was still kind of bland.

This was my first slow cooker recipe ever and it came out great! I did have to take some of the sauce out and whisk in some flour to add back in and thicken the sauce but that's really my personal preference. I had to also tweak the seasonings but... hey, who doesn't? The meat was very tender and all the flavors just went so well together.

It was alright, just perhaps not what I was looking for. I followed the recipe 100% and wasn't thrilled with the result.

5 star recipe. I used 3 bags of frozen stew vegetables in place of potatoes, celery, onion and carrots. Add 2 cans (undrained) stewed tomatoes, 1 pkt McCormick Beef Stew Seasoning (omit 1/2 tsp salt)

I have made this many times for large groups (30) and small (4) - I'm a very busy working gal and I follow the recipe exactly - can't be bothered with browning, etc. Everyone always loves it! I usually buy a loaf of fresh bread to accompany. Thank you!

Very hearty dish with the perfect blend of seasonings. I recommend making this dish exactly as it says. It was perfect for a cold day with some warm biscuits!

It was very good just a little bland next time i will take the other reveiws into condiration and add more spices but over all the pot was empty and everyone said they loved it ( and these are very critical people) i made some extra gravy for me to thicken it everyone else liked it just the way it was and paired it with sme biscuits

Love this recipe! It is really simple and has a traditional taste. I was searching for something easy and good, and I found it! I had all of the ingredients at hand and threw it all together in about 5 minutes. Very easy to make and delicious to eat! Thanks a lot!

Based on ease of recipe - this came out great! I was really expecting it to just taste like beef, but it had a good flavor. I made it exactly according the recipe. (I didn't have beef broth, but used a beef bullion) Give this a try before you go braising the beef - if you want a simple dish. It was really easy and quick. I used the crock pot on high and it was done in 4 hours!

This was my first time making stew, and it turned out great. My family loved it. Even my husband, who is an extremely picky eater and hates stew, loved it. The only change I made was to add some minced garlic!

I made the stew exactly how it was written in the recipe. This is definitely quite edible but alas, I feel like there was a lot of wasted potential. There is nowhere near enough salt in the recipe. The stew was just bland in flavor. However, I do think this recipe provides a nice base to work from. I will make this again but will certainly need to add to the recipe.

This stew was pretty good but I just feel it needed a little extra something. A bit more flavor/seasonings. Its a good base recipe that needs some adding onto.
