I must have done something wrong....it just wasnt good for me. Cooked in a dutch oven for 5 hours....just didnt taste right. As the recipe says, maybe it is better on a sandwich... which I will try tomorrow.

Perfect! I also used 1 can of chicken broth to cover the meat. I didn't have whole garlic, so I used 2 tbsp of minced garlic that I bought in bulk. I cut the potatoes into thirds and put the baby carrots and the potatoes 3 hours before the beef was done, and they turned out perfect! Thank you for the recipe and thank everyone on their reviews. It helps a lot!

Such an easy, great recipe! It tastes just like the corned beef that I've been trying to recreate from an Irish family friend (who wouldn't give me their recipe, by the way). I halved the recipe, but used the whole spice pack, and placed it all in the slow cooker on low. After 8 hours, I pulled it out (it wasn't falling apart) and added halved red potatoes and cabbage. Yum! It wasn't too salty, like a lot of corned beef usually is...and even though all I had on hand was Heineken, it still came out great, with only a subtle beer flavor!

Loved this. My teen daughter even like the carrots that I cooked with it. I didn't have any beer, so I used beef bullion.

Well, first of all, I totally messed up by only making one brisket. I thought that would be plenty. WRONG! Oh my, where has this recipe been my whole life?! I've had reubens before, but never had corned beef on it's own and the reubens I've had have never made me really want corned beef by itself. This beef was amazing... tender to the core, perfectly seasoned, just delicious. My fiance loves corned beef and he said this was the best he's ever had. I used one brisket, 5 cloves of garlic, no peppercorns (forgot to buy them), and even though I used only one brisket I still used the entire spice pack. I can't imagine it possible to make this taste any better. I cooked the brisket in my slow cooker for 8 hours on low, then added potatoes and carrots. Let those cook for an hour, then removed the meat (tented it in foil), and added wedges of cabbage and cooked for another 30 minutes on high. Absolute perfection... the vegetables were as tender and flavorful as any I've had. There is no way I will wait until next St. Patrick's Day to make this again. Thank you!

This was really salty but I'm giving it 5 stars because it was delicious. After asking around on the recipe exchange, I found that corned beef is salty and varies from brand to brand and that cannot be helped by the submitter. This was perfect after 8 hours in my slow cooker. Otherwise, I followed the directions of the recipe. I plan to use the leftovers in Reuben Sandwiches later this week. NOTE: We do not drink/like beer and this did not taste like beer at all.

i've never had corned beef before and absolutely hate beer but i tried this anyway. i'm so glad that i did! i halved the recipe and still some how managed to put a 22 oz of guinness in there and didnt realize what i'd done until after it went in. i was worried that i'd messed it up but it still turned out yummy :). i used the leftover liquid to cook some potatoes and carrots... so flavorful and good!!!! however, i wouldnt recommend doing that for people who do not like salty things because the vegetables do come out a bit salty. thanks for the recipe!

This is awesome! I used both spice packets and light beer. I put it all in a crock pot, set it on low, 10-hours later it was perfectly done. My 4-year-old couldn't keep her hands off the meat!

I made the corned beef (using Guinness) and followed the recipes except I added 3/4 cup of brown sugar. OMG this was out of this world, melted in your mouth like butter. I made sandwiches for the guys at work and they loved it. Thanks for a great recipe.

Oh my goodness...I can see why you said to make two or three!! I think my co-workers will agree tomorrow that this St. Patty's Day feast is gonna be delicious. Like other peoples reviews, I did the crock pot thing...no changes in the actual recipe though. Used Yuengling beer cuz I love to drink it...why not cook with it , too!! Fabulous recipe...way past 5 stars!!

I just made this sandwich for supper tonight and it was a good one and my dad really seemed to like it.I didn't care for it. I followed everything to a 't' (except for the beer, didn't have it) and put it on sourdough bread,I don't think I'll be in a hurry to make this one again. Thanks.

My husband, DJ made this on Saturday and it was extremely good. We used Guinness to play to the Irish in us both. He did however cook one in the crock pot and one on the stove to see what way would be best. We both decided that the stove top was the way to go. They were both tender but the one just had more flavor. We also used about 1-1/2 heads of garlic and split it between the two pots. Next time we are doing both on the stove. Also for those of you who don't make this cut of meat often be sure that after it is cooked to scrape off the fat. It won't take much it falls right off.

I had to leave out the bay leaves and peppercorn because I didn't have any, but it was still awesome! Very tender. I cooked it for a little under ten hours on low.

I tried this recipe for the first time for mother's birthday and it turned out great did make few changes I used 1 bottle of lager beer and 1 bottle of root beer my guess wanted to know what did I add to the beef beside the small pickle seasoning pack that comes with it. my mother can't wait until mother's day to get repeat, but this will become one of the family monthly dish.

Absolutely delicious!! Made it Friday for my husband and he devoured it. Used the leftovers for sandwiches over the weekend. He asked me this morning (monday) if I would make it for him again for St. Patrick's day. Followed recipe to a T. My husband said it was the best corned beef he has ever eaten and I agree!!

This was fantastic! I had never made corned beef before so I was nervous about how it may turn out but was very pleasantly surprised! I toasted some slices of marble rye with swiss, piled on the meat (sliced easily after sitting on the cutting board for about 15 minutes) and added some 1000-Island dressing. Even the picky younger boys enjoyed. Made me wish I was Irish! ;)
