I don't know why everyone is so crazy about this recipe. First major problem, even without draining the browning liquids, there still wasn't anywhere near enough liquid to "simmer" for 30 minutes. This was all Joe and no sloppy. The other major problem is the flavor. Even leaving out the sugar, it was very sweet and ketchupy. It tasted like what it basically is, ketchup dumped on browned ground beef. Not very good.

I make this for huge church crowds and they all love it! I leave out the bell peppers and add extra garlic and onion powder. Yum YUM!

I have made this several times now and my family really loves it. We are a picky family and do not like green peppers in our sloppy joes. I just leave them out and usually have to double the recipe just for the 5 of us.(2 are only 2 & 4). LOL!!! Thank you!!

Another great recipe I've found on this site. I did change slightly, I added 1/4 cup bbq sauce as someone else suggested and cut ketchup down to 1/2 cup. PICKY HUSBAND gobbled it all up and gladly took the leftovers for lunch = ) THANKS!

I had planned on making sloppy joes for dinner when I realized I had everything except the sauce. So I looked up this recipe on the fly and it did not disappoint. We (5 kids and husband) couldn't tell the difference. This will definitely be in our recipe rotation.

Really good and very simple recipe. The only changes I made were adding a little cumin and coarse kosher salt. This one is going in my book! Thanks!

This turned out pretty good -- better than the last recipie that I tried and closer to that "perfect" recipie that we all strive for. I added about 1/4 c barbecue sauce to a 2x recipie and we all thought that it added a subtle enhancement to the flavor of the sloppy joes. The wife and kids loved this recipie although I'm searching for something with a little more kick to it. This recipie is good enough to serve as a base for future recipie attempts.

Very good- I think like others I can't resist making a few changes. I added about 1/4 cup barbeque sauce that I had made a few days earlier, a diced roma tomato, and 1/2 a jalepeno. I also didn't measure the garlic powder, but I'm sure it was more than was called for. Also, since I am on a salt restricted diet I used no salt added Ketchup and did not add salt. With all the other veggies and spices I didn't miss the salt. My husband loved it and went back for seconds and thirds! I loved this recipe!

This is so very close to the can that I really can't tell the difference. The only thing I may do differently next time is add just a touch less sugar.. but it was great! Hubby went back for seconds!

These are so great we make them almost once a week. We do substitute ground turkey for the beef to make them a little healthier and also add crushed red pepper flakes for a little heat. Thanks!

Great sloppy joes with just the right amount of sweetness. My only addition was a small amount of allspice added in with the ketchup mixture. I let this simmer less than 10 minutes and it was perfect. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

Love these! I get rid of green peppers all together, my hubby and I dont like them! I add cayenne pepper for some spice! I also buy fresh hamburger buns/rolls from the bakery and hole out the bottoms of them, add some fat free cheese to the bottom and put the meat on top and a little more cheese and top of that and bake them!! Sooo yummy!! It's a meal in itself. I also substitute extra lean turkey meat for a healthier choice!
