Loved this. Just tweaked it a little. Substituted banana peppers chopped for the green bell pepper added about 1 tsp. of the juice as well. Then added tomato sauce until it was the consistency we liked. About 3/4 of a 15 ounce can.

Excellent! I used ground turkey meat instead of ground beef b/c that is what I had on hand. Also, used 2 cloves of garlic instead of garlic powder and a tsp of dry mustard powder and skipped the green bell peppers (no fans in this house). Really good. Agree that 20 min. simmer was enough. Add water/ketchup if you want it a little moister.

Okay, this could not be any easier or better! I did not have green pepper - it didn't matter, they were still awesome.

I will never use that canned stuff again. This recipe is awesome. I usually add a few more squeezes of ketchup and add a few splashes of worcester sauce.

Pretty good. I made them at home once and then made them camping. Since you cannot simmer things on a camp stove (only one setting for heat: HOT), after browning the meat and adding the rest of the ingredients I allowed it to cook for 4 or 5 minutes. Constantly stirring so it wouldn't burn. Still turned out great. They were eaten by the camp fire with fire roasted corn on the comb. YUM!

These were very good...I used red bell pepper, as I was out of green, but otherwise followed exactly. Had a little sweetness which was different but I really enjoyed. Thanks!

We are not huge sloppy joe fans, but this recipe is great for an quick and easy dinner. It's tasty, cheap, easy and filling and we seem to always have these ingredients on hand. One little thing I added was some Tapatio hot sauce for a bit of zing. Just a few squirts added to the recipe was perfect!

Left out the green pepper since I didn't have any and my son isn't a fan, but when I make this again I will put it back in and just dice it small. Thought it was a good, filling, hearty recipe. The flavor was good, didn't knock my socks off - but it was a good solid Sloppy Joe recipe! I think it goes great with a slice of cheese on top and a wheat bun for some extra flavor. Yummy!

Bland dry recipe. I chose to try this recipe based on the number of positive reviews. I had to tweak it so much I lost count of the changes.. I'll try something else next time

After preparing this dish you wouldn't even know that I used ground venison instead of ground beef. This recipe is outstanding and I will prepare this again. I halfed the recipe again to have more sauce and added worcestershire sauce and hot sauce to taste. WOW!! Can't wait to fix these sloppy joes again. Thank you Tamara for the recipe. I bet ground turkey would be good also.

I used 2lbs instead of 1 for 6 people and that was barely enough. Also I think it was a bit too sweet so I added a can of tomato sauce and paste and added a little vinegar. Worked out really well!

Really great recipe. I live abroad so I've had to find out how to make things from scratch, and all these ingredients I can get here- and it's better than the can! I only add peppers if I have them in the fridge, and I add worcestershire sauce to give it more of a barbeque taste. Delicious!

This is the basic recipe that I remember as a kid. That was way before anyone even heard of canwich or the just as unappetizing dry mixes. Thanks. I give this recipe 5 stars and two grubs up.
