Skillet-Braised Brussels Sprouts

  1. Place bacon in a large skillet over medium-low heat; cook until just crisp, about 10 minutes. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, reserving bacon grease in skillet.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high under skillet; saute Brussels sprouts in the bacon grease until lightly browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Add garlic to Brussels sprouts; saute until garlic is fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Pour chicken stock over Brussels sprouts mixture and cover skillet with a lid; simmer until Brussels sprouts are bright green, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove lid and continue simmering until liquid is evaporated and sprouts are tender, about 5 more minutes.
  4. Remove skillet from heat and stir bacon, butter, vinegar, salt, and pepper into Brussels sprouts mixture until butter is melted.

I skipped the butter and vinegar and added a bit of brown sugar. Instead of doing these on the stove I put them in the oven. Turned out pretty good

My husband doesn't like brussel sprouts but he absoultely loved these.

You either like/love B Spouts or you don't. I am a Huge fan! I sautéed them with sliced onions and finished with balsamic vinegar glaze. OMGosh! Great recipe Kyle!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING:)

I received a simpler version of this recipe a few years back, found this and customized it based on the rest of the meal. I used 1lb. of bacon (hardwood smoked) cut into 1in. pieces. A 2lb. bag of brussel sprouts cut in half. 1 whole clove of garlic. 3tbs. of butter. Pepper to taste. I cooked the bacon until crispy and then scooped it out of the grease. Cooked the halved sprouts in the bacon fat until slightly brown. Added the garlic sliced thinly to the sprouts and continued to cook until you could smell the garlic. Added the bacon back in the pan with the sprouts, garlic and butter- this makes all the flavors cream together well. I made a bound and preseasoned (Italian) pork roast in a Crock Pot. I pulled that out, let it rest for 10 minutes, sliced the binding and cut 3/4 in slices which fell apart! I laid the pieces of roast on top of the cooked sprouts in the pan I cooked in. It was simple and was served in a rustic fashion. Everyone raved! So, thanks to the cook that submitted this recipe- you helped me with the foundation of a wonderful meal!

Awesome recipe! I made it almost exactly as listed except I used a little more garlic, skipped the butter and sprinkled them lightly with the balsamic vinegar. Hubby gave them a thumbs up and he hates brussel sprouts!
