I add a can of cream of chicken soup instead of some of the broth, and additional spices. This is fantastic, and we love it!

This soup is wonderful and so very easy! The only thing is my husband said next time to add more chicken broth because he likes to crumble cornbread up into his soup. We added crushed up tortilla chips and cheese. Next time will use pepperjack. That would give it a nice kick!

This is so easy, and tastes good, too! I only had plain tomatoes, none with green chiles, so I improvised. I used only one can of chicken broth and added about 1/2 cup medium taco sauce. I cooked my own chicken, using two cooked, shredded chicken breasts. This will be added to my list of easy and quick dinners!

Wow! So easy! I was skeptical becuase of its simplicity, but I did make a few tweaks. I didn't have any cream of chicken and all the reviews raved about adding it, so I melted 2Tbsp butter with 2 Tbsp flour and 1 cup of milk. I added that to a chicken breast boiled in water with celery, onion and thyme (about 45 mins). Added a can of corn, rinsed black beans and diced tomates. Once I threw in cumin and some chili powder, it was perfect!

I got a similar recipe to this in an email a long time ago, and came across this when trying to find it again. I omitted the chicken chunks (not a big fan of the meat) and substituted the tomatoes with chiles with Salsa and it's fabulous. I think the salsa adds a lot more flavor than the can of tomatoes.

This has become a family favorite. I've shared the recipe with many. I just pulled the recipe out again... for this week's card party. It's great a great main dish for a crowd, especially when every one brings something to go along with the soup. We've also taken this camping and it's wonderful in a Dutch Oven in the great outdoors. Thanks so much for the great recipe. L.

Everything easy and yummy gets 5 stars from me. It has to be served with tortilla chips crumpled over the top and cheese, sour cream and avocado if possible. So wonderful.

this recipe rox! my family didnt say a word thru dinner- which is a first, I assure you- their mouths were full! We didnt have chicken, so I just skipped that step- we're mostly vegitarian anyway, so no big deal. the only thing I did different was I sauteedred onions and garlic and added some crushed red peppers and cumin. and quadrupled the recipe- big family n all. it worked out wonderfully, and it was just as good day 2.

Fantastically easy & great recipe! I did make a few changes which helped a lot: I used 1 can chicken broth and 1 cam reduced fat cr. of chicken soup, which gave a great consitency. I also used the Rotel tomoatoes w/lime & cilantro, bought seasoned black beans but rinsed them and I cooked 2 chicken breasts in the soup for 1/2 hour and shredded them. I also added cumin & garlic powder. It really doesn't get any easier! My husband's only complaint was that it was missing salt. I didn't add it to the soup b/c of what other reviewers said about the chips making it salty.

Great starter recipie. For mine, I use 1 can of cream of chicken soup, 1 can of chicken broth, 1 frozen chicken breast, 1 can of whole kernel corn drained, 1 can of black beans drained and rinsed, 1 can of Rotel drained, 1 tablespoon of chili powder, and 1 teaspoon of Cumin. Put all ingredients in a crock pot on low, give it a stir and 8 hours later.. delicious soup. I serve it with tortilla chips, sour cream, and shredded cheddar cheese. There are NEVER any left overs!

Add a packet of Taco Seasoning! I also replaced one can of broth with one can of cream of chicken soup and used pre-cooked, diced, frozen chicken instead of canned. Even my 4 year old LOVES this soup! Easy and so good! Thanks so much!

Unbelievable easy, and delicious. Use this recipe as a base for your own version. I added one avocado, some cilanro, a lime and a few shakes of cayenne pepper to spice it up a bit. Great recipe to learn how to make tortilla soup!

I love this recipe! I make it all the time. I would suggest adding a can of refried beans to make the soup thicker, and using Ro-Tel to spice it up. Thanks for the post.

Wow! Outstanding! Drained my beans but didn't rinse, added 1t cilantro, 1t Cholula Chili Garlic seaoning, 1t cumin, 1t chili powder. Used boulion paste with half milk and half water in place of broth. Broke up tortilla chips and added on top with a dollop of sour cream. Didn't add any cheese. Can't wait to make this again!

I love this recipe! It's one of my favorite standbys. I use one of the large cans of regular chicken broth and one can of condensed cream of chicken soup. I add those first and mix them up well before adding the other ingredients, or else I get globs of the cream of chicken that won't dissolve. This seems to give me the right ratio of soup to solids and adds a little bit of creamy taste without being too heavy. I also add a little garlic powder, onion salt, and some dried parsley flakes. One tip: be sure to rinse the black beans well or they will turn the whole thing a disgusting blue/gray color! (It still tastes good, though.) I skip the tortilla chips and serve with cornbread muffins.

Delicious! I gave it 4 stars insted of 5, because I made of few changes. I rinsed the black beans, used 1 can cream of chicken and 1 can chicken broth. I sauted some onion & garlic in the pot then added ingredients, also added some finely chopped baby spinach to sneak some extra vegetables into our diet. Very good and easy. Will definetly make this again. Thanks for sharing.
