I prepared the recipe as instructed, but found it to be quite bland. To remedy this, I added a packet of low-sodium taco seasoning with some extra cracked pepper and WOW, what a difference! It's perfect! I did use the canned chicken, but thought it a little oddly-textured, so I'll probably use leftover chicken, shredded or cubed, next time. Thank you!

Sooo easy and delicious. Did make a few changes to add flavor and consistency: Replaced one can of broth with a can of cream of chkn soup to thicken. Definitely needs chili powder, garlic powder, cumin and onion powder. Also- rinse black beans well to avoid weird grey color. Top soup with diced avocado, lots of shredded cheese, sour cream and crushed tortilla chips. Next time will try using rotisserie chiken instead of canned to add more flavor.

Great! The five stars came from--everything was in my pantry already. It was a great soup that was quick when I was having a friend coming over and working late that day. Like others, I added 1/2 tsp of cumin, 1/2 tsp of chili powder, one clove of garlic. I also did not rinse the black beans, but I thought it gave it a great taste. Serve with chips, sour cream and cheese.

Something very good came from these six cans. I really liked it with a spoon of sour cream added to it. Simple, quick, and good.

With the weather getting chilly, and my husband coming down with a cold, I decided to make a tortilla soup. I like this recipe because I favor a clear, thin broth as opposed to the versions with enchilada sauce or cream. This soup was so yummy after my "alterations" - I used frozen chicken breasts that I boiled with some diced onion in the chicken stock and then shredded. I used three cans of stock instead of two. I always rinse my black beans (which wasn't noted on the recipe). The soup was a bit bland, so I added a hefty amount of taco seasoning - but you could just add chili powder, cumin, salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste. I topped with cilantro and a dash of lime. Wonderful!

Not bad at all for a soup that takes only canned ingredients. I added some minced garlic and chile powder along with a pinch of ground cumin and a dash of salt. Yummy.

I made this in my crock pot, cooking for about 4 hours...was very easy to throw together...I used raw chicken breasts cut into thin strips, and then shredded them with a fork after they turned tender...I did take advice from other reviews and added cumin and chile powder as it cooked...I served with sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese on top...served this for supper and had very little leftovers from my husband and two teenagers...will make again and probably double the quantities.

This was my first tortilla soup and I followed all the other reviews and added cumin, garlic power, chili powder and I didn't use canned chicken. Added avocados at the end with some sour cream and it was delicious!

Im always looking for ways to make canned chicken eatable, this recipe totally worked. I added one of those little cans of chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, and that pepped it up quite a bit! Also put some assorted spices in, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder. Very tasty for a few minutes work.

Followed directions and recipe amounts as listed. I did put the chips on top of the soup instead of in the bottom of the bowl. Very good and could not be easier. I made half the recipe and used the left-over half can of tomatoes and green chili's to make queso.

The taste was fantastic! I did add a couple of chopped fresh jalapenos for a little heat, I also served it with tortillas chips (to make it a little more hardy) and a little sour cream. Yummy!

I modified this a bit since I like a bit of creaminess to my soups. From another review, I only used 1 can of chicken broth (reduced sodium) & I added 2 cans of cream of chicken soup. I also added cumin, paprika, chili powder & garlic powder. I simmer it all on low for about an hour to really blend it all together. Made this way it was awesome! Best torilla soup (and the easiest) I've ever had. Everyone loves it. Thanks for the keeper!

FANTASTIC! I broiled two boneless chicken breasts, used Del Monte Zesty Chili Style diced tomatoes (I was out of RoTel), used 1 can chicken broth and 1 can cream of chicken, added black olives, cumin, garlic powder, chili powder and green chilis, omitted the corn since I didn't have it on-hand. Threw it in the crockpot for several hours and served it with cornbread. My husband and I both went nutso over it! Great recipe and so easy to throw together! Will be a staple in our home!

Hubbie can't have salt, so I used my homemade chicken broth & leftover chicken. Rinsed the corn & black beans. Good & filling.

This was really good! Like many others, I changed a few things. Used one can of rotel and the broth and used hominy instead of corn because I can digest it better! Cooked my own chicken breast cause do not like canned chicken. Added cumin and chili powder and garlic salt. It was DELICIOUS!!!

great basic starting place. i throw cumin in, and substitute hominy for the corn. cut tortillas into matchsticks and fry them in olive oil to make a crunchy topping, along with shredded cheese, sour cream, and avocado. Yum! My 7 yr old loved it.

I've been making something almost identical to this for years. I always keep the ingredients in my pantry for a quick, last-minute meal. The slight difference of my recipe is that I don't use any chicken broth (for liquid, we don't drain the other cans), we use salsa instead of diced tomatoes, and we add a can of refried beans. The refried beans help thicken the soup and make it taste rich. We love this soup! And I'm making it right now as I type!!
