We thought this was pretty good.. we took others' suggestions and used a packet of gravy instead of broth.

I love this recipe and have made it many times. It's in my dinner recipe rotation. My only change is not to mash the carrots. I usually throw in peas too, but that's my personal preference.

Excellent! Followed the reviews of others and added garlic along with the onions when cooking the ground beef. I also boiled the carrots and potatoes together and separated them afterwards. I added some peas as well. I doubled the amount of ketchup for the ground beef. I also used beef gravy mix and water to replace the broth. Next time I will add a little worceshire sauce to the ground beef. I also added some milk to the mashed potatoes because I thought they'd be too dry without it. I only cooked it for 15 mins. My husband put some tabasco sauce on his. I will definitley make this again.

This was very good but a it dry. I skipped the ketchup and beef broth. Instead I used half a can of condensed mushroom soup. The taste was awesome but there wasn't enough sauce/gravy in the middle. The mashed potato topping was also very dry, even with the cheese. Next time I will add some milk to the potatos

Made it for the first time today and it came out good. I followed a few alterations recommended by previous writers and added some of my own. I added about 1/4 cup of low fat milk to the mashed potatoes to make them more creamy, and sauteed the onions with some garlic. We're big fans of garlic mashed potatoes. I could only find 10oz canned beef gravy in the store, but that worked well. I definitely recommend adding gravy & the worchestire sauce. Made a big difference in flavor. Also used frozen peas for taste and color. I will definitely be making this again.

Very tasty recipe. The only changes that I made was to change the ketchup to A1 sauce and added some corn. Besides that it was excellent have made it three times now. Thanks for the recipe!

LOVE this, added Worcestershire sauce to meat. Mashed carrots and potatoes together, just to use one less pot, and added a layer of peas. Awesome.

my kids love shepherd's pie and this is the perfect recipe for a hearty family dinner. I love the addition of onions to the potatoes. It adds a wonderful twist to this already flavorful meal.

This taste like MORE!! It was that good. I did add some frozen corn from the garden, and in my mashed potatoes I did our "Holiday" version. I add sour cream, cream cheese and then shredded cheese on top. Thie is a definate keeper!

Not the best shepherd's pie that I've made. It's a little plain. I will keep looking.

This was just ok. I tried to spice up the beef like others suggested with wochestire and gravy packets but it still always tastes so bland. I will be trying other recipes for this dish.

Following other reviewers - I made some changes as well. Sauteed a few cloves of crushed garlic with an onion in 1 tbsp of vegetable oil before adding the beef. Drain. I added a few shakes of paprika, then added 1 packet of brown gravy mix with 1 cup of water. 2 tbsp of Ketchup (I do not think Worcester sauce belonged in Shepherd's Pie so I did not add it, unlike most reviewers who did) Then I put in a 12 oz bag of frozen mixed veggies (the kind with corn, carrots, peas and green beans in it). I did not add flour, I felt it didn't need it. Simmered it for about 5 mins. I layered this on the bottom of a 9x13 pan, then topped with my mashed potatoes (I didn't add onions to it, only mixed in the butter and cheddar cheese). The cheese is enough to not have to add salt (in my opinion). Topped with more cheese and baked at 375 for 20 min. Came out perfect and delicious! WONDERFUL for the Fall Holiday season!

This is an excellent recipe. Just a few changes. No onion in the potatoes, more butter and milk to make the potatoes creamier. I used 1 1/2 lbs of lean ground beef and omitted the ketchup, salt and beef broth and flour. Instead I used Watkins beef and mushroom gravy base and kernel corn instead of carrots. Next time I will try with the carrots. I layered the corn between the meat and potatoes. Will be a favorite in my house.

I followed the advice of a reviewer...added worcestershire to the ground beef, and added a packet of brown gravy mix to the meat with one cup of water. I also put in frozen peas and carrots. It was fab! My 3 and 1 year olds loved it as well as my husband!

Good and easy recipe! I followed the other reviews to use worcestershire sauce. I doubled the recipe and used 1/2 c. worcestershire sauce. I chopped and sauteed 1 onions with about 3 cloves of chopped garlic. I boiled 8 red potatoes (did not peel, let cool, and then cubed them prior to mashing). I diced 3 green onions. I mashed the potatoes with the green onions, 1 tbsp butter, and 4-6 oz sour cream. I did not have carrots and used a bag of frozen peas to spread over the meat mixture.

I really enjoyed this! I made a few modifications so that's why it got 4 stars. I used half a pound ground turkey and half a pound ground pork instead of beef. I cooked the meat in onions and garlic instead of just onions. I also seasoned the meat with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper, then added a few splashes of Worcestershire. I double the ketchup. I think this was really necessary to give the meat some flavor. I used the "Garlic Mashed Red Potatoes" recipe for the potato topping. We use that recipe a lot (with red and Idaho potatoes) and it made the topping extra tasty! I also used cut up baby carrots, and some canned corn and green beans (drained) for the veggies. This recipe was a really great starting off point, so thanks for sharing! It really tasted better the second day!
