Original Recipe Yield 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns, split

Directions

  1. Cook ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Stir frequently, and break into pieces. Drain off grease.
  2. Add onion, celery, and green pepper to the skillet, and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in ketchup, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato sauce. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 20 minutes. Spoon onto buns, and serve.
