My husband loved this, but I wasn't crazy about it. It is similar to an American pot roast, but with many more seasonings and the meat is ground instead of a roast. It is baked casserole style. Very spicy.

Great comfort dish...ideal for cold, winter months. Can substitute different veggies and cubed ground beef and still turns out yummy!

We don’t mix milk w/ meet but all ingredients (minus the ½ & ½) really appealed to me & took a chance. Very glad we did. For those of you w/ the same food laws (or wish to make this a little less caloric… ), we increased the wine & water by 1/4c. We sautéed all vegetable prior to browning meet. Other than the mentioned changes, we followed the recipe as written. Something different using grounds meet. Thanks!

This was so good! My husband and our 2 sons weren't so sure about this one when I told them the spices I was using, but one taste and they were hooked. I used only celery and onions, since that was what I had on hand. I sauteed the meat with the veggies, then added the spices (used 1/4 t. cinnamon and 1/8 t. cloves) along with 1/2 can of low-fat cream of mushroom soup instead of the cream. I used about 6 potatoes and it didn't seem like too many at all. Definitely cover with foil... I baked it at 375 for one hr. Delicious!

Not impressed. May work better as a stuffing for something but a little strange alone. We did eat the whole thing though.

My family loved this! I drained the ground beef and did not add the olive oil. I used two carrots because I was out of green pepper. I noticed it was quite dry before I put it in the casserole, so I added enough sour cream to make it moist enough to bake without drying out. I used about six smaller potatoes. The crispy potatoes combined with the creamy filling was delicious!

Thank you for a wonderful recipe. We were pleasantly surprised that it was a quite spicy (hot) when only 1/4 tsp crushed peppers was used. This recipe is sure to be a keeper in my house. Very easy to make and very tasty. My father in law has similar dish that he makes and he calls it Moussaka. He's from Bosnia.

This was fairly good, but not as good as many of the reviews had led me to expect. The meat mixture was a bit dry for my taste. If I make it again I'll use more potatoes and perhaps add some crushed tomatoes to the meat mixture.

This recipe sounded good, but was disappointing. I think the spices overpowered any other flavors, and it just wasn't very good.

The spice blend had a great balance and really made the recipe. I'm going out to buy a bigger covered cassarole dish so I can fit one more sliced potato into the recipe. Yummy!

This is really, REALLY good. I started the recipe and had it cooking and when it came time to peel the potatoes, I discovered that I only had one left! I used the last potato as well as two sweet potatoes and it turned out great. I think I even preferred the sweet potatoes. I'll be making this a lot. Thanks!

I wish I could give this recipe 10 stars!! This dish is fantastic, super easy to make and it tastes like a dream. I made it a couple nights ago and plan on making it again tomorrow. After I made it I emailed the recipe to everyone I could and told them they just had to try it. What a great meal! Thanks Amanda

This is a wonderful recipe. My family loved it. One must always remember that you must taste while your cooking (Chef Ramsey from H***'* Kitchen states this all the time.) I have not used cinnamin nor cloves very much in cooking, therefore, adding to YOUR taste as you go with these will satisfy your palate. I didn't use the peppers because I didn't have any. Since it's referred to and compared with a "Sheperd's Pie" I added some mixed vegetables. Also, the crushed red peppers get hotter as they bake in the mixture in the oven and get hotter, so be careful. I also substituted beef boullon with campbell's golden mushroom soup and a can of french onion soup so that it wouldn't be dry as others stated. I did use a half of package of onion soup mix in the hamburger mixture for extra flavoring. What a different flavor; I'm tired of eating the same old things all the time. Thanks for sharing this "Serbian" recipe! Oh yeah, my 11 year old son said it smelled very good and was it ready. He sat down and said "I smell cinnamon" and my husband said, "No" and I said "Yes". This was a wonderful experiment. Thanks again! It's already in my recipe box!
