I have made this dish several times, my whole entire family loves it! It is a rare and blissful event when I can please five people with one dish so I didn't really want to mess with it. However, I was intrigued by the last reviewers suggestions so I thought I would give it a try and am I ever glad I did. I cooked the onions in the butter and added about one teaspoon of fresh minced garlic.....I followed the rest of the process ( I use fat free chicken broth and mayo to keep it healthy) and then added parlsey and fresh chopped chives. Instead of mixing the sauce and potatoes in a bowl, I layered potaotes and sauce and finished off with remaining sauce and paprika.....absolutely the best scalloped potatoes ever!!!

I will try making these again but will definitely fool around with the seasonings. They were too bland for our tastes.

These were delicious but I did add garlic salt, a few thinly sliced green onions and a tablespoon of dijon mustard to the sauce before I poured it over the potatoes. The sauce did taste very garlicy before I put it on the potatoes but the strong flavour did mellow by about 50% once it was baked.

These were very good! I was surprised at how creamy they turned out without any milk, cream or cream soup. I made as directed except I was a little short on time so cooked about 1 hour at 375 then 15 minutes at 325. Next time I will add a little something...maybe some thyme.

This is the best true scalloped potatoes recipe! It is great as is and even yummier with a tweak or two depending on your taste. I didn't want to alter it too much, but I did add a little garlic salt & celery salt in place of regular. This dish is going into regular rotation here! Thanks for the great recipe!

I've been looking for a recipe for scalloped potatoes WITHOUT cheese. I've tried a few that were disappointing. I'm so glad I gave this one a try. . . it's just what I've been looking for! It's delicious! My hubby is more of a "rice" person, but he really enjoyed these!I've printed it to go in my "All Recipes" cook book. Thanks for posting it, Dorothy! PS: It took me more than 5 minutes to prepare, but was well worth it. . .

This is true comfort food. The only thing I did different was to saute the onion in the butter before adding the flour and I precooked the potatoes in the microwave for 6 min before slicing them. I wanted to have this for a weeknight supper but I didn't want to wait 2 hours for it to bake; so by doing this I was able to reduce the baking time to 1 hour. It was a homerun with the whole family and I will make it often.

I thought these were wonderful. I added a bit of garlic powder to the sauce and it was yummy. Don't forget to add a bit of salt if you use reduce sodium chicken broth. Not much just a pinch.

I used some 2% sharp cheese and some Tuscan spices a friend of mine gave me for the seasonings. Did microwave it for 10 minutes before I added the sauce and threw it in the oven. Smells devine and I'm almost sure it tastes as good. Oh yes, added some seasoned bread crumbs to the top before I put it in the oven. Will cook it for an hour at 325 and check it and decide from there how much longer to cook it. Ok, Max, my dog, wants out and is licking my leg. Gotta go. Enjoy.

I was nervous when this was cooking as it had a thick layer of grease resting on top of the potatoes but it turned out great. I followed the suggestions listed and added some fresh crushed garlic to the layers, and some shredded cheese to the top. Since the most common criticism about this recipe was that it was a little bland I opted to use the "Tex-Mex" shredded cheese by Kraft. It gave the dish a yummy added zing. My boyfriend enjoyed the flavor more than his mom's... his only suggestion was that I add a little more cheese next time. We will definitely be enjoying this recipe again soon. Thank you Dorothy :)

I made this for back to back Easter diners. The kids who come to my house are very picky. They loved it so much I was worried I would have to bake the other one for them and make something else to take to my parent's house. My step mother is watching her weight and loved that this did not have a lot of cream. The only thing I changed was that I sauteed the onions and added cheese to the top of the one I made for the kids.

This recipe was a big hit. It was very tastey and kudos to the chef who came up with this dish. I have throw out all other scalloped potato recipes, this one is the one I will use from now on. I only added a step by sauting the onions before adding them to the potatoes. Wonderful recipe - completely suprised it turned out soooo good

This was a fantastic recipe that is low in fat and yet still creamy and delicious! I did find that the onion was slightly overpowering especially for children, hence the four stars but that is easily fixed. I would recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a lighter version of a classic favorite.

YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS RECIPE! I really didn't change a thing, except I sauteed the onion in the butter before adding the rest of the ingredients. It's a delicate flavor, so use the best chicken broth you can. Also, using low fat mayo is perfect in this to cut some calories and fat out without changing the taste or consistency. I cut down the cooking time by an HOUR by microwaving the potato slices 3 min, stirring, then another 3 min before adding the sauce to them. It browned beautifully, the potatoes held together perfectly and my whole family loved it. THANKS!

Interesting...this is the exact same recipe as another on here by Taste of Home, even called by the same name. I doubt I would make these for company as they are greyish looking when cooked. But for just the family, I will substitute these over and over because they are lower fat than usual scalloped potatoes, and yet still very flavorful.

I really found this was good since no eggs/milk for a vegan. I used a vegetable soup mix for the chicken stock did not taste the mayo at all will leave out next time. It was well received however I think it needs some more flavor so will make again and adjust the seasonings.
