This was amazing. I added a little sugar to mine, as I prefer my cornbread sweet. The best corbread ever!!!!

I agree with the review of Feb 2008 which said that the sour cream was too much. I was surprised that the recipe called for the sour cream to go on top instead of being mixed in with the rest of the ingredients. However, I also note in passing that I was out of hot sauce, which could have made a big difference, at least according to other reviews.

I don't think this was spicy but it was still very good. I used walla walla sweet onions and fat free sour cream. I also think 1 or 2 tbsp of butter would have been just fine. It was a very nice change from plain corn bread

I just use the recipe on the corn mean box rather than use a mix and add your ingredients! GREAT! Also, I just cook it right in the cast iron skillet rather than dirty another dish...(I hate doing dishes!) Thanks for this recipe!~ :)

This was so good. I followed the directions, YUM! My husband had three pieces, and he's not a huge corn bread fan. Thanks.

Mine turned out a little mushy with burnt cheese. Still tasted great, but I would recommend adding the cheese near the end and just combining the onion and sour cream for the entire bake time. Great taste, but I agree with the other reviewer who said maybe a little less sour cream. My hubby thought it was too much.

This was an easy recipe to make. It was delicious and my family has requested that I make it this Thanksgiving! One of the few recipes I have not made any changes to. And that's saying a lot!

Wow, wow, wow! First off, this is excellent as it is - the sauteed onions are a real unexpected treat, for those eating this, unaware of its ingredients! I don't really need "spicy" in my cornbread to be honest, so as is, this cornbread is sweet and perfect! However, I do recommend increasing the quantity of hot sauce, for a spicy flavor. I could easily eat this as a meal - thank you so much for sharing!

Awesome! This is one of our favorites that we have been making a few years now. Everyone we have made it for really likes it! It goes great with so many dishes, especially hearty soups. One thing we have found is that it usually needs more time in the oven to cook fully. We leave it in anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour depending on the oven. Just watch closely! Thanks for a great recipe!!

The onions and cheese make this cornbread sweet, savory, and rich all at once. It is delicious!

I followed this recipe exactly and thought the sour cream topping was a bit much. It had a nice flavor with the onions, but if I make it again I would 1/2 the sour cream mixture or double the corn bread.

My sister in law has been making this recipe for many years. I totally agree with the first review, this is not just an ordinary dish; it is a meal in itself. I too add more than 2 drops of hot sauce, but that is just my preference. I took this to a barbecue at my daughter’s house and everyone there kept coming up to me asking if I was Heidi's mother because they just had to get the recipe. Even my mother who doesn’t like sour cream loves this dish. It gets an AAA+++ in my recipe book!

Ruth, I'm thrilled to be the first to review your wonderful recipe!! This is not your ordinary corn bread. Very different indeed not to mention incredibly delicious! I've never had a corn bread that was so moist and my whole family devoured quite a bit of it tonight. I did add a ton more of hot sauce, as two mere drops wouldn't have done much for us. Thanks again Ruth and I'm looking so forward to munching on this tomorrow morning!
