1/2 (15 ounce) package
rolled refrigerated unbaked pie crust
This was a perfect balance of sweet and savory. In addition to the onion, I included chopped celery and carrots. My family absolutely loved this.
With some changes, I think this can be a good recipe, but wasn't as is. Definitely needs more seasoning, and using fresh sage and thyme seems to work better than dried. Also it was really really sweet with the filling, and I think a bit less might work better. The addition of carrots and celery really works, and with a few more tweaks, I think it would be wonderful.
Great winter dish. Sweeter than a regular pot pie and the sage flavor brought a stuffing-like taste. I cooked the chicken like this ahead of time: put several breasts of chicken at the bottom of your crock pot then place 2 peeled, sliced apples that were dipped in lemon water over the chicken, dash of salt and pepper; cook on high for 2 hours and you'll have tender, sweet chicken to add to the pot pie, plus more apples.
This was edible as-is but way too sweet. I should have taken the suggestion to add carrots and celery.
My husband loved this; I thought it needed something, but I'm pregnant, so maybe just a side of chocolate! :D I followed someone else's recommendation and used the crock pot with pepper, salt and apples to cook the chicken. I didn't have a 3 quart pot, and haven't worked with a pie crust before, so mine spilled over a bit--nothing too horrible. I also added celery (no carrots on hand). I'd love to hear what modifications others try!
So delicious. Everyone loved it. Tastes and smells like Thanksgiving. Perfect on a cold day!
