We loved it! I don’t have a slow cooker so used a big pot instead. I used a smoked polish sausage and that gave a good flavor. Personally, I wouldn’t add 1 teaspoon pepper next time. It was just too much for us.

I did not care for this recipe. I cooked it on low for allowed time and my sausage was mushy like vienna sausage.

This didn't work so well for me in my crockpot, but I like the flavor combo. I will try it again, cooking veggies together in a regular pot, and adding sauteed sausage pieces at the end. I am still giving it 5 stars as we did like the taste. OH, I'm pretty sure the sauerkraut needs to be rinsed. Hope that helps someone else.

I hate to be the one giving a bad review, but this did not float my boat at all. Surprisingly, my bf enjoyed it though (huh?). Despite my disappointment, I must admit that Joalyce's recipe smelled DELISH while cooking (I was home all day while my car was at the auto shop). I have cooked Polish sausage in my slow cooker before with great results. This time, my sausage (I purchased pre-cooked Hilshire Farms smoked kielbasa by mistake - I should have purchased it fresh...) had a wierd texture (almost mushy), was a very unappealing dark brown color and was partially burnt! Ironically, my veggies didn't burn at all.... Additionally, I could barely eat one bowlful of this because of the bitter aftertaste. I wasn't expecting a sweet taste, but I wasn't expecting a bitter taste either. I think at least one of the problems I encountered could be alleviated by cooking on low for 6-7 hours as opposed to 8-9 as instructed (my sausage, apple and kraut recipe cooks perfectly in this amount of time). To satisfy my hunger, I bulked up on the rye bread I served with dinner (which filled me up, but left me sorely unsatisfied). Oh well. Maybe this will work for someone else. Thanks for sharing your idea anyways Joalyce :)

this is one meal I can make a bunch of and know that the leftover will all be eaten. I used beer instead of wine. I also put the sauerkraut on top so the flavor would really soak down to the sausage. yum!

This was absolutely fabulous! Just the right amount of tart. I had my friends over the first time I made it, and it was a hit. Even my boyfriend, who does not normally like sauerkraut, enjoyed it.

Nice comfort food. My family ate it all and has asked for me to make it tons of times already. I cook mine in the oven versus the slow cooker.

This was pretty decent. I liked it and I made it hoping that my husband would enjoy it but (as with anything) he didn't like it. Oh well. It's good for me at least.

I made this last night for a pre st pattys dinner. It was just ok for me, but hubby LOVED it. I used beer instead of broth and added a tablespoon brown sugar otherwise followed the recipe. Kids didn't touch it, but then again it is sauerkraut. :) Next time I would change it up a little with more meat less kraut and more veggies.

The recipe turned out awesome....thanks for sharing. It did, however, turn out a little too salty. My only recommendation would be to make sure the sauerkraut is drained (mine wasn't) and not to cook longer than 9 hours (I cooked it for 10).

It was good...but my sausage got almost too moist. I think I cooked it too long! Next time I will only do it for 4 hours and maybe put the sausage in last browning it first in the skillet. It was good and made the house smell great after a long day at work.

I made this in the crock pot today. This was OK, but I really wanted this a little spicier and a little more flavorful. I made 1/2 the recipe using 1 lb Polish sausage, carrots, red potatoes, sauerkraut with sesame, one small onion, 2 garlic cloves, a little cabernet sauvignon, and some fresh ground pepper. I did not have caraway seed, but the sauerkraut did have some in it. I will buy some caraway seed the next time I am at the grocers. Next time I will make sure to use a much spicier sauerkraut. I also need to think about adding a spice which adds a little spicier flavor and/or using a spicier sausage. Overall flavor was very good and the sausage was very flavorful.

This was incredible, all day the house smelled wonderful. I used diced white potatoes, and I cut the sausage into 1 inch slices instead, but otherwise followed as written. This will be added to my rotation, thanks!

My only changes were using brats, which I pre-cooked, and used a bottle of Natural Light beer in lieu of the stock. Oh, and I layered it, vegs then kraut, then brats and repeat. My wife went for seconds, and the house company snarfed up the rest.

This is so hearty and filling. My husband can't get enough! We add a few extra "sacrificial" carrots on the bottom because it tends to burn a little after 8 hours. So yummy. We will be making this often!
