This is nearly identical to how I've made my dressing for decades; the difference being the bacon, which I've never used. But as the saying goes, "everything's better with bacon," so what could it hurt? I used the recipe as a guide, adding each ingredient in amounts to suit me rather than measuring. Rather than rubbed sage, which would have been just fine in itself I'm sure, I used a handful of fresh chopped parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. I also added a beaten egg, as I always do. The dressing was as delicious as I expected it would be, however, for some reason I noticed no difference with the addition of the bacon.

Easy to make and delicious! I will chop the mushrooms smaller so that they are distributed better, and I doubled the chicken stock because we like really moist dressing.

I have made this dressing for several Thanksgivings with great results. The mushrooms and sausage give it a unique taste and texture. When we are dividing up leftovers after Thanksgiving this is the first thing that guests request!

I used this recipe last Thanksgiving. My husband loved it and he's a very pickie eater. I did add water chestnuts instead of the celery. I will be using this recipe for years to come.
