This recipe has been a favorite of our family ever since we first tried it. The bacon grease is a must. We make this recipe at least once a month. Thanks for posting and sharing it.

We've been using this recipe for many generations now and it comes out perfect every time. We also like to top fried pork chops with it. If you can put gravy on it, this one goes with it! It's our all-purpose gravy. Even my northern in-laws who don't eat much gravy, let alone real gravy, love this one!

I, born and bred in the south, think most of us with the same heritage have this recipe written in our veins. But for those who do not, then this is the perfect road to take. You can't go wrong. Assuredly, it is heart attack waiting to happen, but if you go while eating this then you are sure to meet St. Peter with a smile on your face.

Add 2 T cornstarch to the recipe and S&P to taste/lots Pretty good. I used a roll of JD sausaged. Cooked 2 pieces of bacon with it and left it with the sausage. I had to add a little water while Icooked it. I also, added 2Tcornisharch (1st in cold water) to thicken. It was good. Next time I will serve ocer Biscuits, not toast and use store made sausage. Great Recipe!

Very good. I added some sage and garlic powder for an extra kick. I halved the recipe and it made plenty! I didn't have any bacon grease, so I used butter instead.

This was very good and very easy to make - I used only 2 cups of milk and 1/2 lb of sausage to scale it down a bit and it was enough gravy for me and my husband to have it for two breakfasts in a row. Also, I did not have bacon grease so I used 2 tbsp of butter and I did not add any salt (sausage was salty enough for our taste). We made it to go over JP's Big Daddy biscuits (from this site) and it made for a great breakfast. I will never buy the gravy mix from the store again. :)

This was a hit, easy to make larger for a large group of teens and just easy in general. I made it pretty much as in the recipe (well I never measure anything unless I am baking)but I put my favorite cajun seasoning I put in everything and it added that zip. Thanks for posting.

I've made this quite a few times, and seem to change it every time. If you don't have bacon grease on hand, more butter is a good substitute. I tried it with white pepper one time, and the taste seemed off, so I wouldn't recommend that. All in all, it's a recipe I love.

I loved the recipe however I used a blend of venison and ground pork and the fat content was minimal. I used an additional tablespoon of bacon fat and it turned out great. Thanks!

Although this isn't very healthy, I would not change a thing! I have been making this recipe for almost five years now and it's delicious. You need to use the bacon grease. It adds a lot of flavor that you won't have by leaving it out or subsituting it with anything like butter. Also, take the sausage out of the pan before adding the flour. I always remove any meat before making a roux - then add the meat back in when the mixture has been thickened. A roux should never be made with meat in the pan - only meat drippings. I highly suggest following this recipe as stated. Due to the high fat content we certainly don't have this often, but when we do I never change a thing!

this is good taste pretty much the same as the other recipe I'v tried on here.I did use the bacon grease and then cumbled the bacon I cooked and added it to the gravy also. Also add 3 tbl. of maple syrup. Over all good and I would make it again.

Husband made this; his first attempt at gravy anything. He said it was easy and delicious! (I'm not a sausage gravy fan) We halved the recipe and used butter instead of bacon grease and cooked the sausage in the butter, as the kind we use doesn't give off a lot of fat.

Wonderful!! This is my second attempt at making sausage gravy and I was really impressed. However, I didn't have any bacon grease so I just used some butter and a dab of oil. I added some garlic and onion powder, per my husband request. Really good.
