I really liked how the flavors blended together. I made a few substitutions though. I used 8 oz of vegetarian breakfast sausage, 1 tsp of cajun seasoning instead of seasoned salt, and 16 oz of pureed canned unsalted tomatoes (because the cajun seasoning is really salty.) I also baked it for 45 minutes and the cabbage was still firm. There wasn't a lot of liquid in the baking pan, so I wasn't too worried about it getting mushy.

Nice, comforting casserole for a cold autumn evening. I substituted kielbasa for the Italian sausage and added the following: extra black pepper, 1/4 warm water and a chicken cube, one extra can of tomato sauce. We liked this meal and it was great for using up leftovers!

This is okay. It smelled so good while it was baking, but the texture was really slimmey. My kids and husband wouldn't eat it, so I won't be making it again. This might be really good baked in acorn squash.

This is really tasty. I pureed canned tomatoes instead of using tomato sauce. I also added a small chopped eggplant and garlic and sauteed with the sausage and onions. Finally, I added about 1/4 of water because it seemed dry when everything was assembled.

I would agree with the other reviewers -use the tomato sauce and the extra can of diced tomatoes. I misread the recipe and used raw rice instead of cooked, and while the rice was a little undercooked, it wasn't bad. I think that it would have been fine if I had used 1 cup of raw rice and if there had been more liquid in the dish, perhaps if you covered the dish it would have been fine. I would try it again with these changes, but this recipe definately does have potential

Just what I was looking for, very good. Slight modifications - followed other suggestion and used one can diced tomatoes and one can tomato sauce. Omitted lemon juice because I didn't have it and used spicy turkey sausage. Yum! Thank you!

I am giving this recipe 5 stars only because it has potiental. Be sure too cook only about 30 mintues to keep the cabbage from being over cooked!Make sure to use more tomotoe sause than the recipe calls for, about 2 cans. Also stick with very flavorful chicken/turkey sausuage as it would be to greesy otherwise or too bland it you use a basic chicken sausuage. I used a spicy chicken sausuage and it was very good and different from the usual casserole!

I thought this was pretty good. It smelled amazing in the oven. I was trying to use up everything in the fridge so I could save money while the same time using food that would have spoiled. This recipe seemed to fit all the ingredients I had. The only change I made was to add some stovetop stuffing to the mix because I only had half a pound of italian sausage and one cup of cabbage. So that basically changed it completely but I think the recipe would be great as is as well. I recommend it.
