This is actually a terrific, easy recipe for delicious cookies IF your oven is the right temperature!! I think perhaps the author has a gas oven, which I've always found run a little cooler than electric ovens. I read the reviews of those who had problems with burning bottoms and rock hard cookies, and I, too, had trouble with my first batch, even though I baked them for 13 minutes. For the second batch, I set my oven to just under 350, raised the rack a bit higher, and baked them for 10 minutes. The jam was just beginning to bubble and they came out great!! I also used whole wheat flour, but this second batch was still lighter and tender with the "gentler" baking. I added a teaspoon of vanilla as others did, and when they cooled, I dusted them with powdered sugar. My teenage son, a cookie expert (and critic) LOVES these. Success...
