Pioneer Cut Dumplings from the 1800's

Pioneers didn't have much, but what they did have they made the best of. This is a cross between dumplings and noodles, uses only 4 ingredients and is a great comfort food. We have never modified it from the original recipe which has been passed in our family I think forever.

Potato Soup with Spinach Dumplings

I remember my mother often making this soup for Saturday night supper. During the war years, she would cook a lot of stews and soups - she'd start with a big kettle of chicken stock, and it was amazing what she could make! Even though I didn't like spinach much, I liked this soup. I loved to help Mom in the kitchen, and was cooking by myself when I was 10. Cooking has been one of my hobbies, along with sewing and crafting, ever since. I've even won several recipe contests.

Quick and Super Easy Chicken and Dumplings

This is a great recipe for southern style chicken and dumplings. My husband doesn't usually like chicken and dumplings, but he absolutely loved these and asked for seconds (which he never does with anything). My little boys (2, 4, and 5 years) ate it up and asked for more also. I just threw this together on a night I didn't feel like spending much time and energy on cooking. This is great and easy for the kids to help with also.

My mother was one of the best cooks I ever knew. When she made stews we mostly found dumplings in them. We never ate things from packages or microwaves and you sure could taste what food was. That's the only way I cook today - I don't use any electronic gadgets to cook with except an electric stove.
