Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter or margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, and beat well after each addition.
  2. Sift and measure flour, and reserve two tablespoons. Mix remaining flour with soda and spices; stir into the creamed mixture.
  3. Dredge raisins in the 2 reserved tablespoons of flour, then stir them into the batter along with the walnuts.
  4. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and cool cookies on a wire rack.
